June 14, 20251 yr Author Never seen in my garden before the last 3 days, and we've lived in this house for +20 years, is a pair of, I assume pied starlings (?). Had the grass cut short and they go around the lawn digging. Very nervy birds so these are the best pictures I could get, hiding in the kitchen.

Yes, I couldn't decide whether it was a grey wagtail or a yellow wagtail. It didn't seem yellow enough to be the latter. I don't know why I called it "pied"!
June 25, 20251 yr Author I don’t know if it’s the same pair of birds who’ve had multiple nests of eggs/chicks around my garden, including in my cycling helmet that was hanging from my bike’s handlebars, but they don’t seem very adept at hiding their nests from view. This nest is right next to wear we park our car. No eggs yet. Over the years I’ve yet to see any chicks fledge - something usually comes along and eats them – so maybe this time.
June 27, 20251 yr Author Bit of upset in my moobarn. Man trying to catch red-whiskered bulbuls. Committee has requested he stop. He's told them to prove he's breaking the law or call the police otherwise leave him alone. Second person in the last few years trying to catch them. I'm in the 'not happy about it' corner. See how it develops.

July 5, 20251 yr Solved 😁. I actually finally caught some in the act — Asian Pied Starling. They do many sounds (like a Myna) but saw one doing the “birdie birdie birdie” confirmed with BirdNET app; which is quite good at identifying bird calls and songs.
July 5, 20251 yr Clearing the field in the back of the house, and lots of Eastern Cattle-Egret - Ardea coromanda following the digger around. Seems to be the season. Not out back, but at surfside area, also today, more than a few there also. Took a few snaps ...
July 5, 20251 yr OK, back On Topic, 'in garden' or behind the house. About 20 Egrets, at least. Too many to fit in frame.

Set in nice rural location with plenty of trees and water nearby. My "patch" is the garden and anything I can see or hear from the house. I have a north facing first floor terrace that is proving a great spot for bird watching and photography. The terrace is on a level with a large mature tree that attracts all manner of avian visitors, mostly common I might add. I regularly have visits from a group of Racket Tailed Treepies, a Spot Breasted Woodpecker, a pair of Black Collared Starling and a Violet Cuckoo. I also had a brief visit from a pair of Black Baza in January. Less common(here) I have recently seen a Verditer Flycatcher and a Black Crested BulBul, both spotted in the very cold weather that might have forced them down from Tad Mok or Nearby Nam Nao. Besides the birds I have mentioned all the usual suspects are present i.e Mynas, Bulbuls and Koel for example.
July 20, 20251 yr Viang Kum Kam, (Chiang Mai, Nong Hoi Area): We've got plenty of common Mynas and Bulbuls along with some koels and a vast number of Asian Palm Swifts that come to feed on the wing in great flocks. Here's a a lineated barbet (the green one ) with what I'm told is a hoopoe and a startlingly orange visitor that showed up this morning and spent ages way up in a tree arranging its feathers for the perfect takeoff which, of course, it performed the moment I had to change the camera battery. I'm interested in doing some wildlife and bird photography and would be pleased to hear from anyone in or around Chiang Mai who could help me get up to speed. Please send me a DM if that's you.
