Talking of colourful but common birds, I managed to get this photo about right of a White-throated Kingfisher. Rarely seen near water, happy hunting in fields etc.

The Doves, Mynas and even robins in my garden love "small breed" dog biscuits. I put any mango's that fall from my trees on a table which seem to mainly attract the Bulbuls and even butterflies. I've

Can't fly far, but is getting around the garden ok. Adult bird watching but not coming to the youngster.

Fledgling has now crossed the garden and got itself high up the mango tree. Very camouflaged up there but its constant calling gives its position away. Adult close by.

Got a pair of Siamese Pied Starlings in my garden. They are very infrequent visitors over the years, but have been visiting for the past week (since we cut the grass). They move around prodding the ground with their beaks.

Very nervy birds; I can't get anywhere near them.

Most noticeable is how aggressive they are to the common minas, always chasing them away.

Managed to get snaps of them, some local, @ PWA, but none near the house that I noticed.

On eBird it doesn't list a pied myna at all, just starlings

Thai Nat Parks is another site I use for reference, and does note the mynas

While sitting on bed, editing another vid, one my friends flew in for a sip at the waterfall.

May be short a few birds, this hatching season. There's at least 5 nests in this palm tree.

It took me a long time to realise that I had tree shrews and squirrels in my garden; I'd always thought the tree shrews were a type of squirrel or adolescent squirrels.

Squirrels live high in our trees, are very noisy, eat the wife's orchids and take bites out of mangoes and move to the next (she hates the sqirrels), and are evasive.

Tree shrews seem to spend most the time on the ground, are inquisitive about us and go and investigate our balcony chairs when we're not there.

They seem to live side by side without conflict.

Resident Hoopoe finally stayed still long enough to get a few snaps and short vid. Along with few friends foraging in same spot.

Love seeing a hoopoe. Rarely seen them over the years, elusive bird. Never seen a pair.

There's a family of 4 that have made the rounds. First spotted at private residence surfside. Then at the municipal park. There's 2 near the house, though never stayed still long enough for me to get a good snap, until today.

Savanna Nightjar, and crappy snap of, but new species for me. It was wet, sunsetting, and maybe tomorrow, get a better snap with a different camera. Been sitting on our soi, almost nightly, but at sunset, and usually takes off when it sees us starting to walk toward it.

Tonight, it let me walk right up to it, about 3m away ... WTF. After I put the camera back in the house of course, as too heavy to carry while walking the dog, and pending rain.

None reported on Ebird (w/snaps of) or Nat. Park site, this far south where we are.

Birds seem to like our garden, around the house, as small as it is. Think there's been a nest in every tree or brush. New one just now being constructed in a plant on the veranda. Strange place for it, as they fly away every time we walk by the sliding doors.

Or even if I make a sudden movement in bed, as photo was taken from. I need to have the camera waiting on the pillow, or they take off when they see me get up.

Think I need to jack up the shutter speed 🙄

Guessing about 15m away from my perch in bed, and thankfully, the wife cleaned all the windows the other day ...

Just back from a walk around Suan Luang Rama IX สวนหลวง ร.9.

Saw my first hoopoe in Bkk or Samut Prakarn in my +30 years. It made my day!

A pair of hoopoes appeared in our garden in central Bangkok (Ekamai) about 6 months ago and have been regular visitors ever since.

Hoopoes have been regular visitors to my garden for years, especially in the early part of the year, but I haven't seen them this year.

Just in case you're curious about their call, here's one I filmed a few years ago.

Not the best spot, bush to have a nest. We'll need to secure it, so eggs don't get blown out when windy.

While standing at the sink, an Asian Koel caught my attention, but didn't hang around long enough after I got my camera.

Lucky me, Lineated Barbet popped it's head up, and profiled for me, before taking off.
