Here's a a lineated barbet (the green one ) with what I'm told is a hoopoe and a startlingly orange visitor that showed up this morning and spent ages way up in a tree arranging its feathers for the perfect takeoff which, of course, it performed the moment I had to change the camera battery. I'm interested in doing some wildlife and bird photography and would be pleased to hear from anyone in or around Chiang Mai who could help me get up to speed. Please send me a DM if that's you. I enjoy bird photography, but not in CM area. With those snaps, I don't think you need much help. What camera & lens are you using ? I'm a Sony fan myself. Very nice 👍

Very nice 👍 Glad you liked them - Do you know what the Orange bird is? I was a Canon and then Sony user from 2003 until about three weeks ago when arthritis in my hands finally made using the Sony A7iv too painful to be fun any more so I swapped the camera and accessories for an Olympus Systems OM1 in an attempt to save enough weight to let me get started on birds and wildlife. It's really some tips from an OM System user that I'm hoping for - the camera has a lot of good features but it's not the most intuitive interface I've ever used and adding a 100-400mm lens didn't do much for the weight saving! Those are the first two OKish Pictures I've taken with it but I'll carry on learning.

Had the grass cut short and they go around the lawn digging. Very nervy birds so these are the best pictures I could get, hiding in the kitchen. The pair visit every time we cut the grass, for just one day, poking around, making lots of holes in the turf, successfully searching for worms.

August 11, 20251 yr I don't have a garden. I do have a condo on the 26th floor overlooking the Chao Phraya river. I see different birds flying around every day I am here. Two days ago, 8/9/25, I saw a large, dark colored, bird gliding around close to the surface of the river. Getting my binoculars, I watched it glide around for several minutes before it caught a thermal and floated up above the height of the condo and around it out of sight. As it was a large bird I searched the internet for Thailand eagles. I found a match to the bird I saw, a Black Eagle. According to the internet this eagle is mostly found in forested mountain regions of Thailand. Does anyone know if it is uncommon or rare to see Black Eagles in the Nonthaburi area of Thailand? I cannot recall seeing any eagles in Thailand, vs. in the area I live in Pennsylvania where I occasionally see Bald Eagles. I was told there are about 80 Bald Eagles that live in a park by the river about 2 miles from my house. I saw one catch a fish in the creek next to some property I own in Pennsylvania.

That coloration and the spread of feathers at the end of the wings. Not once did I see it flap it's wings all during the time I watched it through my binoculars (pictures from internet).

A couple Barbets, though skittish. This one finally profiled for me. Hopped over to a tree branch, which I prefer, instead of sitting on wire, but got chased off by a Koel 😂

Years ago, when I was quite new here, I saw what I thought was a small parrot or lovebird - but I didn't think there were any parrots in Thailand - entering a nesting hole in a tree, in a Tesco carpark. I searched for the bird name you've given and the Wikipedia page showed the bird at a nest hole, exactly as I remembered seeing it. Never seen another one here but mystery solved.

Spotted them locally, Prachuap,, some Red-breasted Parakeets, and some Vernal Hanging-Parrots, over by Khao Sok Nat. Park area.

If I can see it, within 50 ish meters, then I can usually get a decent snap of it. Anyway, some parrots / parakeets, locally, and not so local, with couple others, 'in tree' snaps.
