Labour Ministry scrambles to raise standards for safety measures and skills of public vehicle drivers

BANGKOK, 11 March 2016 (NNT) - The Ministry of Labour is looking to set standards for public vehicle drivers who are yet to be constantly aware of responsibility for the safety of their passengers.

Labour Minister Sirichai Ditthakul instructed ministry officials to scramble to set up the standards for safety measures and skills to be required of public vehicle drivers across the country, confirmed ministry permanent secretary Puntharik Samiti.

He added that the ministry will discuss with the Department of Land Transport and the Harbour Department, among others, in order to work together for that matter.

All that is needed is for such drivers to pass their driving tests in accordance with international standards, and not obtained their licenses through brown envelopes.

Education, law enforcement, willingness from the participants are all huge factors, meanwhile people dying daily because nobody show a good example or at least keep the rules enforced. Thailand should have similar systems same in Hungary:

You can solve this problem only, if you get down to the root of the problem.

Make the owners of these vehicles financially reliable ! Problem solved within a few days/weeks/months

I disagree with you. Newtons law of action and reaction apply. The idea is to produce something and the reaction is to run away from it as fast as possible (It is the 2nd law of motion)

Just enforce the existing laws effectively and honestly, hmm too easy (or too hard).

Keep passing more laws, having more crackdowns, it's worked well so far

Enforcement of current laws and regs should do the trick. Would be the end of "scrambles" and "crackdowns." Would also mean the end of public servants' private/untaxed pension plan.

All the money gathered in fines could go to gov't coffers to make real change in the country.

But alas, if there is no graft where is all the fun?

I am in favour of all psv drivers being taught to drive by competent drivers who have no blemishes on their records asap.
