Briefly..

I am a UK citizen. Wife is Thai with a UK 'settlement' visa.

We may wish to go on holiday in the Schengen area at some future time.

We'll be in BKK for a few days, week after next. I could take the opportunity to get out marriage documents 'legalised' by the MFA (per requirements for Schengen). What is required to do this? Just turn up at MFA with Thai documents & translations?

Easy way is to just the have translations service take care of it - and they can then mail to you if you are not in town. Not sure of current procedure of if they still have a fast service option.

Yes. Agree that using a translation agent would be better. Do you know if the MFA require sight of our passports. I am not keen to leave our passports in the hands of an agent...

It has been several decades but am sure I did not require passport to translations service for marriage registration. Do not even believe copy is required - they are concerned with marriage document and translation - but they may have needed bio data from passport for processing request. At any rate should not be any need to leave with translation service AFAIK.

Perhaps someone who has done recently can advise?

They stamp translation and attach to marriage certificate photo copy making it a legal document (certified marriage certificate) for international use.

The MFA does not need to see your passport or even a copy of it.

I used Express Translations next to BTS Ploenchit. They are good but equally there are plenty of others to choose from.

Allow 3 or 4 days for the process.
