Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.

Firstly, you won't be missed and secondly, thanks for your small part in reducing the amount of rubberneckenpeepenlookers coming to Phuket. It's just what Phuket needs.

PS. Don't worry, I'm sure you can indulge your tastes at Nana Plaza in Bangkok. I'm told there are heaps of them there.

Again, thankyou.

How long have you lived in Phuket?

Well as you asked, though it took you three attempts........(and you still stuffed it up)

Phuket's been my home for 31 years. In SE Asia for 36 years. Not that that actually means anything.

In my opinion it's all about costs: AC hall, shop rent, lighting, fridges and coolers, employee. You have to sell a many bottled water bottles a day to cover that cost. Therefore 20-30 THB is reasonable. And it's a service and business. No profit = no shop = no service. 40THB is at least 25% to 40% too high agreed.

It is the High OVERHEAD - LOW VOLUME and a captive audience that sets the prices.

I base this on my years of flying as a commercial pilot and eating in the airports, we never patronized the shops the traveling public aka tourists patronize. We did eat in the restaurants from the menu on which always did find MENU of the DAY. At least that is how it was in my days of working, I have been retired now since 1994 and have not flow since as a passenger, so I do not know what the Menu in the restaurant(s) is now 2016. Maybe they now they all have jumped on the RIPOFF Bandwagon for all I know.

If Eco class traveling public had any smarts they would eat something before leaving for the airport and then wait for when meals are served on the aircraft in flight. Or fly Business class so you can use the Business class Lounge with all its goodies included in the ticket price. When you do any figuring you may find out that Business class is really not that expensive for everything you are getting.

As the saying goes, "You get what you pay for".

The topic is about water being cheap for shoppers/travellers. Would be nice to have some water while shopping in Central World, i won't go to the 7th floor for that though.

And i've been in Phuket plenty of times, enough to never go back there because of all the scams. If you like ladyboys Phuket is the place to be.

Ridiculous post. I guess you don't even go into shops because you want the goods delivered to you in the corridor.

Spare me days - have these "kini cow" (tight arsed) Farang never bought water at a western airport. 40 Baht (Aud $1.60 in as against $4.00) 200 Baht in any Australian Airport:- Note just using Australia as an example!

aaah, but this isn't the West.

and most of us came here because Thailand is different from the West.

even the most classy Thai golf courses only charge 20 baht for a bottle.

anyone enjoying buying 0.5 l of water for 40 baht can buy it in a Western country.

I think any effort preventing Thailand from becoming more Western is laudable.

And not all travelers in and out of Thai airports are western, many are Asian, and in both cases the automatic assumption that they are rich is not true.

So you know their rent, electricity bill, staff costs, wholesale price, number of bottles sold etc?

Water is an essential nutrient for the body.

Most airports have a free drinking fountain, with shops selling chilled bottle water for it's convenience for the purchaser, and as it's chilled, it's refreshing properties.

I agree with your statement in relation to price, ONLY if drinking fountains are supplied.

However, can't you see the issue where by an essential nutrient is not provided by the airport, with the shops price gouging due to that fact????
