Has anyone imported a camera from Amazon into Thailand? What did you have to do to collect the camera? I assume that customs held it until the fees were paid? Was there much delay, paperwork?

I ask, as I wish to buy a camera on Amazon and have it delivered to me in Thailand.

You don't have to worry about that because Amazon will charge you the import duty on top of the price of the camera and pass it on to Thai customs on your behalf. It will be delivered normally. It will be clearly shown on Amazon's invoice when you order it online. But first you'll have to check if that particular item is delivered to Thailand. Because of various licensing agreements many items cannot be delivered here.

I frequently order stuff from the US to Europe. Like that one Laptop sleeve Dell wanted 59 euros for while it was only $25 in the US. Amazon handles exporting/importing perfectly, the shipping company will handle all paperwork and you don't have to go anywhere, just wait for the package to arrive at your door. You can see where the package is and its status at any time in your Amazon account. Delivery is only 10$ or so.

But from what I have found, >90% of electronics can't be shipped internationally, as the previous poster pointed out probably due to licensing. You could try buying the same item from a different seller on the Amazon marketplace, this sometimes works but only if he does sell and ship through Amazon (that is, his inventory being at an Amazon warehouse).

Oddly enough I recently ordered a camera from Amazon UK which arrived in Bangkok within 6 days.As previously noted Amazon takes care of the duty and this is made clear in the price breakdown.

Total cost including transport and duty was less than Paragon/Mall price.I suspect Amazon beats almost everyone by focusing on volume rather than margin alone.

Still my main purpose in ordering from the UK was to avoid the agony of dealing with product ignorant - and often surly - salesmen in the usual outlets.

I know there are specialist shops in Bangkok where staff are knowledgeable and polite. But not so convenient for me.
