Expired international driver's license for Thai driver's license

Featured Replies

Hi TV,

I have a quick question. I want to go for a Thai driver's license this week, and I do have a dutch license as well as an international driver's license from the Netherlands. It is expired however (1 year after issue). Can I still use it in order to get a thai driver license? Or do I have to do all the tests and exams?

Thanks very much.

Kind regards,

Julian

1) You can try your luck with the IDP (international drivers permit).

2) Your dutch drivers license is valid? "Euro" plastic card? Again you can try your luck with this.

If not, worst case: you have to provide a translation of your Dutch DL.

You will not have to do tests (theory, driving).

You always have to do physical tests (colorblindness, reaction) and maybe attend some video or tutoring.

"Luck": handling differs much from office to office.

Even the must of physical tests does not apply 100%.

Some just hand in the paperwork and walk out with a temporary (2 year) license.

Where do you want to go?

2. Dutch license is valid, and is indeed the 'euro' plastic card. The IDP is derived from this license but like I said the IDP is expired.

Can I do a translation of my Dutch DL myself, or at a official institution like the embassy?

I the physical tests will be no problem, just trying to avoid having to come back for a driving test.

I am planning on going to Samut Prakarn office, I got my work permit there as well.

I hesitate to give you advice about the translation.

I strongly suggest that you first take your IDP and Dutch DL to "your" DLT office and ask.

I assume you are applying for a car license and both the IPD and the Dutch DL show a "B" license?

B stamped on the IDP.

B still valid date on Dutch DL.

Ok I will go there first to try i out.

Yes the my license and the IDP both have B for car license.

And the dutch license i still valid for around 4 years so, anyway it should work out ok.

Thanks a lot for the help

Forum is fairly quiet this morning.

Guess you will get more advice.

Offices closed tomorrow (6th) and from Wed 13 to Fri 15.
