Changing An Eea Family Permit To New Passport

Hi

My wifes passport has expired and hence she needs to obtain a new one.Her EEA family permit valid for 5 years is in her old one and thus we have to get it transferred over.I assumed this was a straight forward process as she has allready adhered to all entry procedures however talking to a HO advisor he claims i have to again send my last 3 months wage slips along with my Irish and British passports as well and it could take up to 14 weeks!!!!Is this info correct?I am concerned as we are leaving to Vietnam in June.

If the permit was issued by the UK then you can either:

Apply to the Home Office to have it transferred to her new passport, providing such documents as they require.

or

Carry both old and new passports, so when she re-enters the UK she can show the IO the permit in her old passport.

The latter certainly works as far as a UK visa is concerned, so I don't see why it shouldn't work with an EEA family permit.

Jai jen jen na,

GU22 gave some advice and that was the limit of my knowledge, carrying both passports that is.

The difference between an EEA family permit and a UK visa is probably not generally known.

As for Scouse, he may well not be in the country, he is allowed a vacation now and again.

If anybody could help and this has been demonstrated time and again on this forum, I am sure they would.

Time will tell, in the mean time a little patience might help.

There are two possible reasons why no one else has replied:-

1) They have nothing to add to my previous.

2) They haven't had the time. People who post advice on this forum do so in their free time and without payment. It's not our job and no one is under any obligation to respond to posts by you or anyone else.

Sorry to bump this thread up but im still unsure and am hoping Scouse can confirm if this indeed would be safe to do.I dont particuarly want to send my wifes passport away again to get a new stamp and thus it would be a relief to discover that the old one still will suffice,but am concrened i may encounter problems in Thailand/Vietnam.Any thoughts on this Scouse?

Travelling with both the old and new passport shouldn't be a problem: there's no way that an I.O. in the UK would refuse her entry (not that he could).
