NAKHON SRI THAMMARAT:-- A cashier at Tesco Lotus in the south of Thailand was praised after she reunited a customer with a pile of dropped cash yesterday.

Saowalak Bunthiam, just 18, found 20,000 baht at the Nakorn Sri Thammarat branch of the countrywide store and when no one came to claim it she alerted police, reports Daily News.

Following an appeal on the Daily News online site a teacher at a local school came forward to claim the money. Careful police checked CCTV just to make sure but soon Pranee Julapoon met the honest cashier and the money was returned.

Pranee, a teacher at Huasai Bamrungrat school in Huajai district, said she had got the money out of an ATM and then gone shopping at Tesco Lotus when she realised it was missing. She thought she had dropped it at the bank but it was not there. She discovered it had been found on the newspaper's website.

Saowalak handed the money to Pranee in a ceremony at the police station.

"She is lovely," said Pranee, "and her lovely actions have made me very happy." She gave the cashier a 3,000 baht reward for her honesty in returning the money.

Nice story. Should go a long way to improving T./hailand's corruption rating. It only needs the government to follow suit and give a bit back to the farang community

and we can all be a smiling part of the land of smiles
