BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court has thrown out a request of the enquiry officers of the Department of Special Investigation for an arrest warrant to be issued against Phra Dhammachayo on the ground that the abbot of Wat Dhammakaya has never shown any sign that he will run away.

DSI director-general Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang said that the DSI asked for an arrest warrant from the court because the embattled monk was not seriously sick as claimed and that he could perform his religious duties as usual.

Commenting on the statements made in the social media by the monk’s doctors and public relations office claiming that Phra Dhammachayo was very sick and could not report himself to the DSI to acknowledge the charges against him, the DSI chief merely said that they had the right to say so.

However, he said the picture which was recently posted in the social media showing himself and several DSI officials observing the bandaged legs of the monk was an old picture taken last year.

The colonel went on saying that the DSI had sought a court warrant for the arrest of another suspect, Ms Sasithorn Chokeprasit, wanted on charges of money laundering and receiving stolen properties although the suspect has reportedly escaped out of the country.

If he can put off chatting to the DSI for as long as he pleases, without any repercussions, then sadly it makes sense he doesn't need to run away... meanwhile Ms Sasithorn who apparently isn't so untouchable has seen the writing on the wall and is no longer in Thailand... just another in a long line of people who can do as they please without any need to answer to anyone.

another fine example of how the Thai justice system needs to brought out of the dark ages, I don't hear any thai officials claiming Thailand as the "Hub of Justice and Law and Order" in Asia

The Justice System is the mainstay and backbone that Democracies are built on, if it isn't working or in Thailands case "is seriously flawed" then Democracy cannot function.

They just don't get it

What Democracy? What Justice? Money is God! Same the world over, in every purported religion...

Dear Criminal Court, the arrest warrant you are supposed to issue is not because the man would run away, it's because the man doesn't show up, repeatedly. There is a difference, you know. Maybe you don't know...you probably misunderstood. Go back to school and learn things...on second thought, don't do anything. That's what you are good at.

I wouldn't answer that knock on the door today if I were you. The courts have their own special 112.

I'm afraid they got it a long time ago

but it suits them too well

democracy is a hassle if you are over the law

just call it democracy for the foreigners and continue the old ways

including brainwashing (prevent education) of the pawns

Just one more protected class in Thailand

but but but, he is not a elite, he's a Thaksin's friend

Well, that would be yet another reason for the current regime to screw him good then.

Definitely not what would be likely to protect him.

He must have many better connections and probably heaps of $$$$ to ensure this level of protection.
