Has anyone had any recent experience with getting a police certificate for a Thai national WITHOUT going to the Special Branch in Bangkok? The website of the "Special Branch" says in person, but Thai government websites have a tendency to be inaccurate. My fiance was told today at a local police station that she can go back to the govt office of her residence to get the certificate. The conversation was in Thai and I don't believe too much in Thailand unless I see it. I am trying to avoid a trip to Bangkok to simply hand the documents through the window and take fingerprints. I also would like to be sure that before she goes back home, she can definitely apply for the certificate there. I can see all kinds of possible screwy scnearios with this, so I would love to know if anyone has done this recently. Thanks.

My wife is intending to travel to Bankok to do the same thing so it would be far more conveinent if she were to apply in her own Province

I am watching this thread with much interest

Wozza,

It doesn't seem too many have had recent experience with this. Those that I have heard doing it are already in Bangkok, so they went there anyways. My Fiance will be calling the "Special Branch" in Bangkok either tomorrow or the next day. Also, I am going to stop by a shop that did my translations that also offers the service of doing the whole visa process. The girl in there seems pretty knowledgable about the whole process, so I want to run it by her. It's difficult to believe any one source, so I am trying to get as many opinions as possible. I will keep you posted on what I gather.

Thanks Thaisow i would appreciate your help on this and i am sure all other BM's would too if in fact you could do this proceedure in the provinces rather than taking the big slog to Bangkok

when my wife was due for permanent residency in Australia we had spent more than the allowable time outside of OZ and she needed a new police clearance from Thailand, We went to our local police station had her fingerprints taken, a stat dec from Oz police and sent all to Bangkok via Fed Ex with return Fed Ex bag included

came back in under 2 weeks

so should be possible in Thailand

Hope this helps

cjd,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately for our scenario, this Special Branch distinguishes between applicants living abroad and applicants living within Thailand. It seems that they may make a special case for Thai citizens living abroad. This can be seen at the website of the "Special Branch":

BTW, what is OZ? I assume that is Australia.

Wozza,

It looks as if the only way for Thai citizens living in Thailand to get this police certificate is to apply in person in Bangkok. My fiance called the "Special Branch" today and they affirmed that she must go to Bangkok to get this and she could not apply from her home province. I still need to get over to the girl that did my translations to get her opinion. I went today but she was busy with a customer for awhile so I will stop back there tomorrow. I will post the result of my discussion with her, but it is starting to look like a trip to Bangkok is in the stars.

Well Thaisow

Looks like you stars were correct

A trip to Bangkok is on the horizon

My wife rang them also and yes she must attend and for the Aussie's information an introduction letter from the Embassy is not required but some baht for the postage for the certificate back to her home is.
