Visa Exempt to 90-Day Non O Spouse Visa conversion in Thailand <---Is this still possible?
Hello I have been told that this is no longer possible. These are the words of a commenter when I asked on another forum if anyone had any info regarding the information needed for the Samut Prakan immigration office to convert a visa exempt to 90-day non-o spouse visa. "when done inside Thailand it is called an extension as you can not get a visa inside Thailand. Also you need to buy either a single entry, or a multi-entry re-entry permit to be able to leave the country, and come back on the same extension type. What you did before no longer exists so get all of that out of your head. You need bt400,000+ in your bank account. There are no longer any exceptions to this." I don't want to argue with him, he is either ill informed or correct. So which is he? -

The Swansea-raised engineer set out on what was meant to be an adventurous excursion on 11 February 2024, only for it to turn into a desperate search-and-rescue effort. Gowribalan, who embarked on the journey with a friend, faced catastrophe when his kayak began taking on water. About 500 metres from their accommodation, the vessel overturned in the reservoir, part of a lush Khao Sok National Park. His mate's frantic calls for help initiated a search lasting three days, culminating in the discovery of Gowribalan's body on Valentine’s Day. The inquest at Swansea Guildhall revealed critical oversights; the tourists failed to register and acquire lifejackets for their kayaking venture. Thai authorities confirmed the lack of formal safety measures. A post-mortem highlighted significant findings of water and sewage in Gowribalan’s lungs, confirming accidental drowning. Coroner Aled Gruffydd led the inquest, expressing profound sympathies to the bereaved family and emphasizing the preventable nature of this tragic loss.
