CHANTABURI:-- A husband and wife performed an unusual crime reenactment in downtown Chantaburi yesterday - how they stole a Pomeranian.

The dog snatchers were fingered after the owner and his daughter posted CCTV of the theft, from outside their shop in the eastern Thai town, on Facebook, reports the Thai News Agency.

Multiple shares soon led police to the thieves in the nearby town of Khlung and within two days the snatchers were wai-ing the owners and asking for forgiveness.

Married pair Malinee Namwong,30, and Kraisorn Saklang, 31, said the dog, called "Ai See" and worth 30,000 baht, ran up to them as they parked their Honda Civic on Thursday. They decided on the spur of the moment to keep him thinking he didn't have an owner, they claimed.

Glad to have her pet back safely Nanthatporn Sae-lee, 17, said she did not want to press charges. Police, however, said that it was now a criminal matter and they would have to proceed with a charge of theft against the couple.

She has 4 dogs. She goes to an abandoned rec center that has a huge and fenced in parking lot and let's her dogs run around. Nobody is ever there. expect this time. Came in fast and before she knew what was going on, opened their car door and grabbed her very small dog.

What I don't get is why was a 30,000 baht dog allowed to approach a car as it was parking? Was it not leashed? Was it not being supervised? Or was it just left to run around on the street like so many pet dogs here?

Sounds like a strange story to me.

Thais generally do not walk their dogs; they just open the gate and hope the dog comes back.

You also cannot just walk an untrained dog in a large (enclosed) park.

As this person walks their dog and even does it without a leash means they have invested quite some time and effort in training the dog.

Whoever spends that much time with their dog builds a connection with that dog meaning they will see it as much more than a mere possession; they probably see it as a family member.

When the dog got stolen, or kidnapped, they even searched Facebook for hours/days to find it back and were lucky to finally find clues online for how to get it back.

Then the thief/kidnapper says "sorry" and they decide not to press charges????

Since you don't know my friends, how can you post a response like this? If you have dogs, you know how important it is to walk them on a daily basis. Especially big dogs, of which they have 2. Plus, 2 small dogs. They get walked every day. And yes, they are very well trained dogs. Like mine, when I call it, it responds immediately. The results of good training. And like this story, when returned, she decided not to press charges. They were taken by 2 teenagers.

I've gotten them from the pound and paid big money for purebreds. Apples and oranges. I use to be into Bouvier's. Had several that I paid big money for and they were fantastic. Great intelligence, temper, coat, etc. I got a few from rescue shelters and they were just not the same. Great dogs, but totally different. Also makes a big difference if they are raised from pups by only you.

Agree, but on the other hand, a couple of neighbours had their pedigree dogs snatched within a week Had they not been left alone outside because their owners were too bloody idle to walk them, this would never have happened. And they expected sympathy!

Have to disagree. In the UK my family bred pedigree collies. When I moved to Thailand, I'd adopted, or rather they adopted me, three soi dogs and found absolutely no difference in them except for every animal having it's unique personality, just like humans in fact. For this reason I prefer older dogs, you know what you're getting, even with previously ill treated dogs, they will be so grateful to you for taking good care of them for a change.

Please do not support puppy mills, particularly here where this odious business is largely unregulated. There are many wonderful rescue dogs here.

I'm 100% against puppy mills. For sure. Only got my dogs from reputable breeders. As I said, I've also gotten many rescue dogs. With ZERO exceptions, the rescue dogs all had "issues". Some small, some HUGE. With ZERO exceptions, the dogs I got as puppies and raised myself were easier to train and more loyal. Plus, had the traits of the breed I was looking for. Appearance, Temperament, etc. You pretty much know what you are getting into.

Reputable breeders attempt to produce the healthiest dogs the limited gene pool will allow, and buyers of purebreds primarily are interested in a puppy whose adult size, appearance, and temperament are predictable

My intention is not to be argumentative but what 'issues'? Not one of my adoptees had a single problem, and they were already grown, bar one puppy I'd rescued from a motorway. Conversely, I have a very nice neighbour who, having bought two dogs from a farang breeder in CM, is at his wits end. No one is allowed in the house for fear of attack and he's shelling out $300 US every month to treat their many genetically inherited problems. It's a well known fact that many dogs having been bred for profit have genetic problems through interbreeding. Better off with a Heinz 57, least the gene pool's much wider

I just hate the "puppy farm" industry here, knocking out "fashionable" dogs as status symbols to vapid consumers, whilst potentially great pets are chucked away, left at temples, or even eaten by people that know the price of everything, yet the true value of sweet FA.
