Decha hospital ordered shut down for 30 days for being substandard

BANGKOK: -- The Department of Health Service Support has ordered the temporary closure of Decha hospital for 30 days because the hospital is inadequately staffed and below standard.

DHSS director-general Dr Boonruang Trairuangworawat said today that the department had received many complaints that the hospital is not in a position to provide health service because it is staffed with only one resident doctor and a few nurses, poorly lit and the emergency unit has been closed.

He disclosed that the hospital’s operator died a month ago and a new operator is yet to be found. Also, he said the hospital management did not comply with law governing health services by shutting down several departments without permission from the Public Health Ministry.

The hospital has 100 beds but it has only a few staff left which makes it unfit to provide medical services, said Dr Boonruang, adding that once the hospital can find a new operator, it has to apply for a new licence from the Department of Health Service Support which will examine whether the hospital is adequately staffed and up to the standard or not.

Currently, there are seven in-patients hospitalized under the social security programme and coordination is under way to have them moved to the other hospitals.

Unfortunately many people could suggest most public hospitals and a few privet ones suffer with the same issues.

Every public hospital I have been in, it's the family that cares for the patient not nurses or nurse assistants.

The corruption in the health system is a major problem, once they get that under control then maybe they can improve the standard of care.

Sounds about like the NHS

I don't think the NHS is that bad yet otherwise life expectancy would be much worse. It is getting bad but I don't think the staff or the public will allow it to deteriorate too much.

At least notice has been taken of this hospital and it's being dealt with.

What has happened in Thailand is the same as the UK..only the skint without private insurance or money will use the NHS.

The NHS is on the verge of collaspe, and i know this first as have a relative who is a doctor working for the NHS and if the rumours are true there are plans to "privatise" the whole set up....the public have nothing to do with it, and in some respects its the staff, ie the upper management who are half the problem

This is to give the hospital time to increase the size of the brown envelop.

When you have no better idea than the always same boring story with the brown envelope, why they comment at all? This has nothing to do with this story.

OK, gimee a hint. Where's Decha Hospital? Neither the headline of this topic or the linked article gives a location. Is it in New York?
