Ok, I'm in Thailand just a few days now, in Bangkok, looking for English-teaching work but also interested in some of the other specialties this country has to offer. In particular, I am hoping to see a gastroenterologist at some time, and I was wondering if it would be possible to get a specialist to see me by simply dropping in, or is an appointment necessary? And if I schedule an appointment, how soon might I expect to be able to schedule it?

That's one nice thing about LOS: you can just drop into the best hospitals in the country and wait to see the next available specialist. Usually, no appointment needed. Though, of course, if you come in while they are on their rounds or in surgery, you'll be in for a wait. Just go to reception and they'll direct you to the proper department.

Personally, I like Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital more than Bumrungrad.

You can google Samitivej, survey their specialists, choose one, see his schedule, and make an appointment, all over the internet.

if you drop in then you dont have a choice of doctor , you can check their qualifications and specialties on the websites for the hospital of your choice.

Bumrungrad have an excellent website. You can search for doctors based on specialty, view their credentials, and then after having made a choice, schedule an appointment on line. In my experience they usually respond via email and telephone within a few hours during the day, Mon-Fri, or the next business day if you made an appoinment request at night or over the weekend.
