hip pain

Featured Replies

i get pain in my left hip when i walk up stairs.

no pain when walking or down stairs, only up

any ideas??

Try taking a couple of ibuprofen tablets every day for awhile to see if it helps reduce the joint inflammation. You might be getting arthritis in the joint so an anti-inflammatory drug may help.

Possibly bursitis, especially if you have similar pain when rising out of a chair. See http://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases_conditions/hic_Bursitis/hic_Trochanteric_Bursitis

If you have no contraindications to NSAIDs (history of gastritis or ulcers, bleeding abnormalities, being in anticoagulants, allergy to them) then could try that but if it persists, should see an orthopedist. Steroid injections are sometimes effective.

That's a really helpful link, Sheryl. I've been having some pain exactly as described, I think partially as a result of sitting too many hours on a poorly sprung sofa while avoiding the outside heat.

I have Arthritis in my knees so I just assumed it had spread to my hip. Hopefully, it's actually Bursitis.

I'll try the suggested exercises and get my butt off the sofa.
