Seat belts are over rated. Ive not worn one for many years and I aint dead yet.

Have you ever been through the windscreen of a car at speed yet??

Yes in 1965 aged 2 along with my parents and Brother, Dad broke both ankles and had back injuries I almost lost an eye where the glass cut my face. no seat belts in the car back then, he was in hospital 6 weeks..............new car had faulty suspension which broke on a bend apparently.

Ahhh the old days when airbags did not exist. I vaguely remember them.

Why would I de-activate the airbags ?.

doing something as stupid as that would require me to wear the seatbelt, No thanks.

Perhaps you should do a Google search before relying totally on an airbag to save your life in the event of a collision, but you strike me as someone who thinks he has all the answers.

Dont worry after your neck is broken and you dribble out of the corner of your mouth from your wheelchair you probably wont know anything anyway

Does seem however from my unscientific study that most Thais agree with you although you could have a sex change as only half of women are likely to have a problem as opposed to men..............maybe their twin airbags helped?? although "bags" might be an overstatement in the Thai case

Somewhat amusing that another two threads about Thai driving habits pop up this morning.

The other one about their ways of transportation (sitting on the back of pickups etc.).

Of course I wear a seatbelt even with having airbags.

I educated my Thai family and won't transport anyone who does not buckle up.

They find it "funny" and giggle blink.png

I had to show the kids some youtube videos to explain what these belts might be good for.

I have given up thinking about the safety of Thai riders. It's boring and pointless.

It IS a third world country and will need decades to develop to some level.

They love to fly out of their cars in trivial accidents, fly from the back of pickups rolling over...

I can not remember a single question or video snippets for the Thai driving license caring about security.

I have to admit that I feel unsafe if I don't fasten my seat belt. I haven't had that feeling for a long time though.

If someone sitting in the rear seats doesn't fasten theirs I ask them to sit in the middle seat and tell them when you come past you will miss me...

It just becomes second nature to put on a seat belt, I almost do it subconsciously. I don't why anyone would choose not to wear one unless it just pig ignorance.

Its a risk Iam happy to make.

Happy to live live in a wheelchair or breathing through a tube? Why take any risk when the inconvenience is negligible? It's also illegal not to wear one.

I too am surprised at this.... With the exception of a couple of troll comments its universal knowledge that seat-belts save lives.

What really surprises me is the number of kids stood on mummy's lap in a car and in general the numbers of unrestrained children.

At Bumrungrad I see scores of expensive cars and vans roll up with unrestrained kids... These people are intelligent enough to earn sufficient money to purchase a Merc, BMW etc... they have drivers etc.. but the haven't considered the safety of their kids.. It shocks me.

I for one hate going in a taxi without a seatbelt, hence I use UBER where ever I can.

My In Laws never use their seatbelt in their car.. but in my car they know my instance on the seatbelt and always belt up in my car...

I remember someone saying (Clarkson on Top Gear?), that the roads would be safer if we had big spike on the steering wheel !!!... there is an undeniable logic to that... the biggest danger is stupid people !..

You probably know that with airbags its mandatory to wear seatbelt? Otherwise your face will suffer from the explosion, and your neck will most probably snap.

So you are saying with airbags and seatbelt I'll never die or suffer injury....

I might have to re-consider !!

Riding a bike with no helmet is suicide.

But not wearing a seatbelt is perfectly acceptable. Go figure.

Bikes don't got no metal cage or airbags..

go figure.

I suppose there's no way you can get hurt being thrown around inside a metal cage, unrestrained, with no seat belt? I don't see how an airbag can keep you in your seat when the car may be involved in a rollover or hit from the side, but I'm sure you'll be able to provide an answer to this perplexing question.

i took this photo in a taxi a few years back in Bkk. as usual no belts in the back, but very concerned for the safety of his front seat passenger by tying 2 knots to hold the belt on! clap2.gif

I wasn't wearing a seatbelt when I limped away from this. I learnt a valuable lesson.....don't fall asleep whilst driving! Still don't wear a seat belt. I haven't got one on the motorbike so I figured riding around in a tin can would be Ok in most accidents if I had an accident.

8888 on the license plate and a buddha amulett makes some feel safe enough to skip seat-belt and even child car seat....
