For some apparent reason my 4wd auto 2008 pre facelift fortuner struggles to reach above 155 Kph and at 4th gear never reaches 3000 Rpm and maxes out at 2800-2900 rpm @ 4th gear.

It has around 130,000 km with servicing performed every 10,000 km.

Before i could easily cross 180 kph without any struggle.

I have already changed the following: new tyres, fuel filter, fully synthetic oil, all the fluids has also been changed, ecu reset

Been using she'll v power and caltex for quite a while now to clean the system, not sure if it helps or works.

But so far nothing seems to work

Any ideas what might be the culprit? The suv also feels sluggish at high speeds compared to before.

Although I'm not a car expert but you could also replace the air filter, when it gets dirty after a year or two its really degrades the performance...

I already replaced that.

Maybe problems with the turbocompressor? I've read stories from people experiencing loss of power due to this, although it seemed to be more massive than this.

Have you taken it to Toyota @ Rick, I have Fortuner from early 2006, I have never had a problem like you're describing, but the only time my performance ever took a hit is when I needed a new battery, that"s the problem with Toyota's they rarely go wrong, so it's hard to get a diagnosis on here.

Be interested to find what your problem is, good luck.

I really want to take it to Toyota but just wondering how will I describe them my problem and how they can diagnose my problem since there is no engine light or other indicators on the dash and the power is good while driving in low speeds but not in high speed.

Shouldn't there be any check lights on the dash?

Did you try service from Thailand Toyota ?

its not as standart Toyota.

rolleyes.gif . better try some out..

PS

chek oil filter.

If you change filter to K&N back to original

Cheking MAF sensor

Cheking air leakage into the socket.

180km/h its not normal for this is car..wink.png

if you are so cool the engine oil should be changed more frequently

i not much as you only 160km/h but if 3000-4000 often..

change oil evry 7-8k km.

change fuel filtr 15-20k km.

hope your car be fine..

guess it fuel filter or MAF sensor

Yes, right, that's it sorted I would imagine.

If one is not so cool is it ok to leave oil changes for longer periods?

I suspect a fuel delivery problem, it may be worthwhile going to the dealer and ask them to check all fuel injectors and when they tell you they all need to be replaced go to another garage for a second opinion. Toyota some years back now had problems in certain markets with injectors, Toyota said they were fine its the crap fuel your putting in them.

yes it can be. But cant say its crap injectors. 130k on ODO and OP honestly say F... engine..

And if not change fuel filtr it can be clogged injector.

If you have tried all the obvious stuff you may have a problem with the electronic engine/throttle control system. This can only be checked at the dealers diagnostic setup..

PS. An oil filter will have nothing to do with your problem, plus when you change the oil you also change the filter, which am sure you do...thumbsup.gif

Agree.

Needs to be plugged in to the correct diagnostic gear next. Even if you can't explain the problem to them they should get an error code.

Good luck.

I read in OP that ECU was reset. Was a diagnosis run before that at that time?

I tried to reset the ecu myself by pulling out the ecu b fuse and efi fuse from the fuse box but it didn't solve the problem.

Do you have rough idle?

look your Maf sensor. it even can clean yourself.

and one more thinks if you f.. you engine.. fuel filter better minimum change evry 30k..

If its clogged injector .. clean or change cost more..

Hope its be some simple as clean MAF.

good luck on road

Almost guaranteed to be a sensor problem somewhere. Throttle position, MAF/MAP, could be anything. Competant garage can ID the code it throws, and proceed from there. 130K is not many miles. Like always when troubleshooting - KISS
