BANGKOK: -- The Ministry of Labour has been coordinating with relevant agencies to work out plans to help about 4,000 employees of Bangkok Mass Transit Authority who are to be made redundant as part of the city bus agency’s restructuring scheme, said labour permanent secretary M.L. Poontharik Samiti.

BMTA plans to cut its staff down by about 4,000 who include 3,000 bus conductors and 1,000 other workers through its voluntary early retirement programme.

M.L. Boontharik said that plans are afoot to retrain, to find new jobs, to provide occupational training the employees who will leave the city bus agency. He added that the BMTA had been told to help out the employees first before they are to be made redundant.

Katipo is right , those old knackered horses ought to retire as well.Luckily some of those old Female conductors can still keep fingers busy by taking up the Gov Massage training Program in Phatum Thani.Once fully qualified can do home service at reduced cost for the elderly ???
