Hi folks. Used to go to The Londoner on Soi 33 with wife and kids - listen to the band, have dinner etc. Obviously it's gone now but are there any other similar venues? Thanks in advance.

Bully's between Soi 2 and 4. Yesterday there were several families there. Good food (burgers are real good), a couple of pool tables and lots of Tv's showing different sports. Free popcorn for all. The kids enjoyed the free popcorn and the staff had no problem handing out more. Definitely no 'working' girls to harass patrons. Not sure about evening live music as I usually go for lunch. Air-con inside or sit outside and watch the world go by.

yeah...I would recommend Bully's as well...absolutely no BG action and nice and cool and quiet in the afternoon...I mentioned in a previous thread about 3 years ago that I stumbled in there as I was walking back to my soi 6 hotel in the hot sun from the US Embassy on Wireless Road and it was like an oasis...with a salad and garlic bread and a pint I emerged onto Sukhumvit in combat condition...looks to be a place for local office workers to have a quiet drink and a chat after work...

they had a nice caesar salad, I remember but the burgers were too big and I had to quarter the mother to get my fangs around it and one would haveta mince it for a kid to eat it...but, there is pasta on the menu and that suits fer most kids...also a full range of asian dishes...

but there aren't any roasts there that I could see and The Londoner, I understand, was famous fer that...

Bully's has a website:

"Hemingway's" on Sukhumvit 14, just under the Asok BTS platform has a beautiful setting in an antique and historical house. There is a very nice open terrace in front as well as a spacious dining room on the 2nd floor, where there is also a balcony area.

Drink prices are in line with what the Londoner charged...food somewhat higher but pretty good quality. There is a evening "Happy hour"

Location, 50 meters down Suk. 14 on the left.

Experience tells me that kids in bars are more of a nuisance than working girls ( and I'm not that fond of them either). They shouldn't be there (children, of course).

Basically anything in Nana Plaza, as long as you leave before 7.30 p.m.

Who in their right mind would even consider taking children into Nana Plaza, regardless of the time?

Obviously they would be having soft drinks, duh...

Obviously, duh [sic]. But what they drink is not the point as anyone in their right mind should know.

I would say no bar is friendly for families. They are for adults who often swear, drink and discuss adult topics. Call me traditional but I don't feel these are places for children.

yeah...if what we call a 'bar' is characterised by the establishments along soi Nana I'd say that's true...

but I think what the OP was askin' about was info on places that are not typical of the area...

There are numerous Bars in Bangkok that I've found it ok to take my 2 yr old Son into.

That said I'm not comfortable being in a bar with him quite late (i.e. after 9 or 10 pm). Additionally, if my Son starts playing up, its straight home, but usually he's great... sits there and plays, tries to talk etc.....

For an afternoon or early evening beer and a bite to eat...

- Robin Hood

- Dubliner

- Royal Oak (mentioned as its in the area, but probably not as its open air, hot and smoke blows in from the smokers outside)

- Bourbon St.

- Irish Exchange

- Landmark

There is also a Multitude of Thai & Western style restaurants where it would be acceptable to sit and have a beer with your kids.

There are some who say kids shouldn't be in bars... I guess that depends on the owner, if the Bar has a Child seat and serves child meals the antiquated views have been outvoted !!!...

In general Kids are not a nuance in bars, drunk people behaving badly are.

Some seem to go out of their way to find issue with kids in a bar, restaurant or on a flight etc... when in truth, they are simply looking for the problem. These types of characters could find and issue or a problem anywhere.

That said - IF a kid is loud or becoming irritable its up to the parent to keep them occupied, happy and calm. No child should be running around a bar, pub or restaurant.

There are also some pubs which are not so child friendly... The miserable buffoons with no tolerance of anyone else can go to those !!!....

Many people wouldn't want to overhear your swearing and x-rated conversation...

My parents would also be offended at your choice of conversation and swearing... I wouldn't call you traditional... but your class and respect of those around you would come into question.

Traditional in the sense of kid's in public areas has always been a case of 'seen and not heard'..... so long as the kids are quiet and behaving, I see no issue (particularly now that the indoor smoking bans are in place).

'Kids should be seen and not heard!'...belongs in the 19th century. Allow kids to be kids. They shouldn't be wrecking the place or too loud but they should also be allowed to express themselves. A few hours in a bar/ restaurant in the afternoon is fine. Kids will love the food, such as chips, sausages, roast beef etc... Most of them are sick of rice from school meals. But after dark the parents should be bringing the kids home as its nearly bedtime for them...
