BANGKOK, 1 June 2016 (NNT) – Tourism and Sports Minister Korbkarn Watthanawarangkura has expressed concerns over the tourists who were killed and injured from a capsized speedboat near Samui island off Surat Thani province.

She extended her condolences to the families of the German, British and Chinese tourists who were killed in the accident. The authorities have already sent their bodies back to their home countries.

She has instructed the tourist police in Surat Thani to provide conveniences to the families of the deceased as well as to the injured tourists. She has also assigned the Bureau of Prevention and Assistance in Tourist Fraud to be responsible for the remedy of the victims.

When did this incident happen???......She certainly sounds "very" concerned ....giving a media statement several days after the event.....

No doubt authoring a new spin on how numbers won't be affected!

Concerned only about the PR damage control. Where's the action on regulations and enforcement? Maybe courses on how to drive a boat so not every Somchai and his nephew can drive a passenger boat around. News reports said the boat was licensed for 45 people, or about that number. The day of the capsize, there were less, but seems too high of a limit for a boat that size.

Trains derail on a regular basis. Bus accidents happen every week. Most of the boats used for public transport are unsafe.

She has every right to be concerned, as the authorities simply have failed to improve public transport.

Certainly she should be concerned for the families of the dead. Not to mention those injured in hospital who were probably terrified out of their wits when the military rocked up to their ward with guns hanging off their hips. What incredibly bad form that was. Surely someone with half a brain should pre-warned them to do a Johnny Cash and leave their guns at home. But I guess Thai military egos overrule anything else.

No doubt she had been told about the critical reports in The Guardian and other media outlets: the days of ignoring these incidents are long past. She needs to exercise her influence to improve standards or go back to flogging fridges.

Its like a weird science fiction global project,,, give the kids a country to run and see what happens.

Money

Ever counted how many times your local friends say the word Baht/day ?

No kidding, just pay attention and don't lose count... coffee1.gif

Well at least she is being honest. Not really concerned about the dead tourists, or improving

safety, just concerned about the bad publicity that one tragic event has after another has on

the image of Thailand and how it can impact on tourism. I am sure if they could hush up all

theses accidents they would. blink.png
