PHUKET: -- Rescue workers pried an airport taxi driver pinned against the steering wheel of his vehicle, after it crashed into a power pole this morning.

The driver, Chakri Jaruwateekul, is in serious condition at Vachira Phuket Hospital. Mr Chakri, whose taxi operates under Phuket Mai Khao Sakhu Co Ltd, was unconscious after rescue workers had to cut him out of the Honda Civic.

“It took about 30 minutes to get him out of the car, before we could take him to hospital,” said Kathu Police Lt Col Ampholwat Saengruang.

If he survives that he should buy lottery tickets with his number plate every day for the rest of his life.

Wow, really looks like he was traveling at high speed, dare I say too fast for the conditions of the past 10 days. All that blood on the road doesn't bode well.

Couldn't have been driving too fast as Thai's don't do that

I now, not his fault, he was driving within the speed limit, not drunk and the pole jumped out in front of his perfectly maintained vehicle.

Pry him out is not too far from what really happens !

Looking at the pic it seems they took him out through the door exits, this can be the way to do it sometimes.

Where I come from the usual way here would be to cut the a and b posts, (maybe the c if you need more room ) peel the roof back, insert a spinal board (I know TIT) roll back the dash if needed and lift out.

Hope he is ok.

Horrendous for everyone. Rescue workers ain't got it easy. Remarkable he survived; hope he makes a good recovery.

He can thank Budda his lucky amulets had new batteries installed to maximise the protection.
