Hydrochlorothiazide

Featured Replies

I am looking for generic hydrochlorothiazide (diuretic medication for the treatment of high blood pressure). Does any one know a generic brand name commonly available in Thailand? How much does it cost?

Thanks

Just ask about it in any pharmacy...they have it. I believe the lowest formulation available in Thailand is 25 mg. It is dirt cheap.

HCTZ is available in two types of packaging that I know of. One is individual foil wrapped tablets which cost 2 baht each. Individual tablets are 0.6 baht each. Ask for the bottle not that foil wrapped.

Can I ask why you chose this particular diuretic? Hypokalemia is a consideration, and something potassium sparing might be worth talking with your doc about.

Btw, there are studies that show significantly larger decreases in Diastolic numbers using Spironolactone compared to Hydrochlorothiazide, which is also potassium sparing, but will chase out the sodium.

Sometimes they will give you a mix of different diuretics to find the balance of salts that is appropriate for you. In my case blood pressure numbers are in normal range without them though, and my need for diuretics are elsewhere, so we would probably have different needs.
