Does Bumrungrad Hospital rent out its operating theatres to external doctors ?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if private hospitals in Bangkok rent out their operating theatres to external surgeons ?

Let's just say you are a qualified surgeon but your clinic does not have the amenities to perform a particular surgery. Do hospitals rent out their OT to such external surgeons ?

I don't know, but if so the practitioner must be licensed in Thailand to perform any surgery.

Yes, I'm referring to Thai qualified surgeons.

What do you mean by "rent out" and "external surgeon"?

All the doctors at Bumrungrad are "external" in that they are not hospital employees. They are independent doctors who enter into a contractual arrangement with Bumrungrad to use its facilities and have what are called "admitting privileges" i.e. they can admit patients to that hospital, they can see outpatients there (hours as frequent or seldom as they wish - some doctors are as little as an hour a month, others only by special appointment). Most doctors at Bumrungrad and other private hospitals also work elsewhere, sometimes in their own clinics, often at other hospitals.

They are not going to let someone who does not have such a relationship with them use their facilities. But it would be very, very unusual for a surgeon with a private clinic not to also have admitting privileges at one or more hospitals....so unusual that one would want to know why.
