I have had a couple of experiences at different hospitals in CM for different things and wondered what other members views were regardless of cost.

Lanna and CM Ram I have been to for dental work. Treated at both by the same guy who was very good, the only difference apart from the higher price at the Ram was that Lanna didn't have the latest equipment like the Ram or nice extras, e.g. no numbing gel before the injection and the mould was made manually by him which impressed me to be honest.

Another hospital I had the unfortunate pleasure of visiting was Central Chiang mI I had a suspected broken jaw after a crash but they didn't even xray me. My wife was very unhappy with the hospital and said Government hospitals are far better. Its a weird place reminicent of some old hotel, strange type building for a hospital.

Lastly, Rajahev where we have taken my eldest son a couple of times. My wife found the recptionists and office people rude and very unhelpful. She also said the bills were outrageous even higher than the Ram for a quick consultation with a doctor and some medicine. She vowed never to go back again. Also they were rude when she requested an invoice in English. Not customer friendly at all. I would have blown my if I was there at the time or they treated me that way.

My wife has also been to Macormick which she said was ok. We both agreed Ram is the best but with a higher price. I would happily go back to Lanna for dental treatment but would probably go more with doctor/specialist than the hospital. Obviously if the same doctor treats at both hospitals you would choose the hospital of preference.

We are now looking at options for a new born and based on location without any experience we are thinking of Bangkok hospital over the Ram. Heard good things about Ram from her friend for new borns and also her other friend said good things about Lanna. The Ram could be an issue in rush hour is my concern hence thinking about Bkk hospital. Its new and I havent heard much about it that is my concern. Lanna is further away hence the preference for Bkk before gathering any more feedback. We intend to visit all 3 before making a decision,

Thanks

Maharaj/Suan Dok is the best hospital in Chiang, at 2,500 beds it's the biggest and it has all the technology and access to all the doctors, the doctors being what makes a hospital the best.

And good food courts for the staff and public visitors, a bonus when we come visiting biggrin.png

Central C.M is a government hospital and not a very good one at that. they didn't x-ray you because all of the patients who need any type of radiology are transferred by ambulance to that private radilogy clinic next to Teppanya Hospital.

there is nothing wrong with McCormick; especially the OB/GYN dept. which is staffed by senior, experienced doctors. the nursing staff very nice and very competent, and although prices are up there a good 30% in the last couple of years, they don't try and gouge you (too much), and you can discuss each and every charge with them and they will tell you what everything is for. if you disagree, some adjustments can be made. i would not go there for heart surgery or something....deliver a baby - yes.

Agree entirely, quality of doctors, care and facilities combined are what makes a good hospital in that order. Have to say car parking is a bit of a nightmare at Suan Dok from memory, guess because its so big. Went there before to visit a friend, seemed ok but I cant comment from a patients perspective.

I certainly wouldn't return to Central CM glad you agree its not a very good one. I guess like most things certsin hospitals have a better reputation for certain treatments depending on the doctors and level of care and this can change over time. Leaning towards Bangkok for previously stated reasons. It is more expensive but we are fully covered by insurance so price not a factor on this occasion for us, but sometimes it is! My wife said if we had to pay we would just go to a Government hospital one known as mother and baby.

No such thing as the best hospital.Major priority is the Doctor, or Specialist, that is treating you problem

You will just get a multitude of different opinions and that all they are

Bit like asking where's the best pizzza.

Recommended list of doctors etc at top of this page.

Wow, I put together the pinned list of doctors and I've never heard of Central Hospital ( their web site link shows page not found) plus honestly, this is the first time in thirteen years I've ever heard the name mentioned!

Lets not forget the "Geriatric Hospital" on Hang Dong Rd, opp Dr Morgans clinic, past Tesco going south.

They have the top specialists visiting there. I have the list, which I got from reception, and its changing constantly as they upgrade, everything is covered but they dont have a web site yet just a fb page.

Good reports coming from patients.Dont be put off by the name it is not meant to be derogatory, includes anyone over 40,or maybe they have increased the age limit to 60 ,not sure.

They are not the biggest, and probably not "the best", but for loving care by a conscientious and competent staff, there is no netter hospital than McCormick. The food needs improvement, but there are plenty of little restaurants next door.

I like McCormick, I get all my blood tests done there but I've not yet come across a specialist that I feel compelled to see there. Shame really because as you wrote, they are friendly and caring plus it's a nice atmosphere for a hospital.

I so much agree with that. Seems like many people like the Bangkok because it is the most modern one and the most expensive one. I have heard some good reports on a baby being born there. But most of the talk was praise for the doctor who had delivered many babies in other hospitals.

I had an exam at Ram one year. Part of it was an X ray. The doctor wanted to operate on me immediately. It was an operation that the doctor who had done the original operation and his replacement when he was on vacation both recommended not having. That was in Canada. A few years later I went to the Ram again and Doctor Sudhee also recommended against it. He explained it to me and said in his 40 years experience he had only seen it done once.

My self I like Rajavej I have had no problems there cheaper than the Ram and the service was just as good. I have no idea why your wife was treated the way she was. Some times things like that happen when the supposed innocent one is far from innocent. Then there are days when some people react that way because they are just having a miserable day and take it out on another. At any rate it is not some thing I would worry about. I get that way myself once in a great while.

The pinned list of doctors is a really good resource

and there are a lot of doctors who have been used

by members of this forum with good results.

However, there are doctors on that list, who I have

never seen a single post from anyone who has used

them. It doesn't mean no one has, it's just that I would

prefer to see some feedback before picking one.

It would be nice if people who use medical services

take the trouble to post about their experiences.

As far as medical problems are concerned we are

all in this together and the more feedback we have the better.

That's a very good idea but it seems there is then a bun fight by TV members over the value of the comment.

However I will say that Ass Prof Sandhu Trichak removed my gangerous gall bladder,at RAM, complete with 7 stones 2 years ago.

He is apparently a bit of a legend in these parts, pionering lacroscopic surgery in CM, which is what I had, and a lovely caring man.

He just did a similar op on my neighbour and she has the same opinion. He's on the pinned list,so I've kicked it off ,fire away.

Dr Patarapong at RAM gets all my votes for cardiology, very talented, excellent English and nice guy.

Dr Trichak at RAM also gets kudos, he's stitched me up three times and removed Mrs. CM gallbladder, he's got a brilliant reputation that's well deserved.

Dr Ampica at Sriphat is the go to Endocrinologist in the North, loads of good doctors point you at her if endo. is needed, she gets my vote and then some.

Dr Jaruwat at Rajavej for gastroenterology, he knows his stuff and there's no messing around, the best of his peer group by far.

There, that's my stable of talent, I've seen all the above several times over many years so I can put my hand on my heart and say, I recommend these guys.

Dr Rachada at RAM for opthomology, very thorough and very pleasant.

Ass Prof Sandhu Trichak removed my gall bladder in 2005 at Sripat, via laparoscopy.

In and out in 24 hours, no problems since, excellent surgeon and nice man.

I believe he's only at RAM now, not certain.

Dr Trichak teaches junior doctors and student doctors at Suan Dok, three/four mornings each week and also performs surgery there.

I spent 6 days ( I think that's what it was) in Suan Dok in January for about one third the price of Ram. Could easily have been less than one third depending on how Ram itemizes and their markup.

The problem I have with the list is who is saying they are any good, its a list from what I gather. Maybe what we should do is start a specific doctor recommendation thread for specific treatments and ask for feedback. I might just do that now!

A good list and I recall reading many positive posts regarding all those you have mentioned.

If doctors are used and found to be good, people will write about them.
