I reckon…. and if he has (or hasn't yet) there is ample opportunity to slip out without passing an Immigration Checkpoint.

The RTP seem rather fond of checkpoints for everything from checking compliance with helmet wearing regulations to uncovering serious crime. They seem to think that miscreants are going to obligingly come to them.

No he is not. I know you wanted to get a dig in at Thaksin, but your comment is foolish. There is no way a country which considers Buddhists to be an abomination is going to roll out the welcome carpet for a Buddhist holy man. Do you honestly believe that the UAE would tolerate the incense, icons, amulets and daily alms walk? The UAE is not the EU.

I detest Trump for a variety of reasons, and now he's given me one more. So what if Trump called? FIFA could have refused to take the call or it could have said no. You don't know what went on behind the scenes with Portugal. Ronaldo's offence was far more serious than Baloguns, and the only reason 1 game was served was because the appeal was late in being filed and there were 3 games that applied. It is hypocrisy to pick one event and not the other. The reality is that the Football federations are corrupt. This is a business, not a charity. FIFA will do whatever needs to be done to maximize profit. How quickly the allegations of bribery and payoffs that marred the selection of the last WC site have been forgotten. World Cup and Olympics are all about making money for private business interests, not sport.
