Can anyone please help?

I have done, at least 4 times most of the Youtube solutions for this problem on my old ALDI Medion Quad core desktop which I have had for many years

I have also cleaned both the main and graphic cards processors and re Thermal greased them, they did seem a bit dry.

For a couple of days after this I had no problems, then it started all over again.

At this moment in time the PC just turns itself off with the error message and then boots itself up again.

I previously have had no problems with my PC and only had to replace the PSU about two years ago with maybe a too cheap one bought from a shop on Soi Khao noi

Since I updated the PC to Win 10 home premium I have had nothing but trouble with this TDR video failure error, message , some time ago after the Win 10 upgrade it seemed to "break down" whilst on Skype or Youtube, or maybe under stress but now it can turn itself off when not actually being used albeit turned on.

I read somewhere that it could be a PSU problem but cannot find where I read that so in a last ditch attempt I have stripped the PC down again, cleaned it all (there was very little dust or debri) and was wondering if the PSU could be not up to the Apps in Win 10, also whether it's possible to find a better PSU with a little more grunt just in case the cheap PSU from China is a the problem

Just an added thought I also have "stress tested' the CPU and the GPU with Furmark and there were no problems

Your help would be most appreciated

Thank you

I hesitate to ask, but you already did the obvious and check for latest graphics card driver?

It's an NVIDIA graphics adapter? What model?

Tons of complaints about "Error tdr video failure" on W10.

At this moment in time the PC just turns itself off with the error message and then boots itself up again.

It's NOT a power supply problem.

If's the good old BSOD (blue screen), a reaction to a fatal driver error.

Not really "turn off" but simply a restart initiated by Windows due to the blue screen.

The behavior can be altered (e.g. that the blue screen remains on screen and you have to manually power down/restart).

My condolences, you are another victim of W10 upgrade.

When did the upgrade happen?

Rollback still possible?

Just watched a video with some tipps to fix the problem on an Intel 3000 graphics adapter (rolling back the driver, changing power options for the graphic card).

It could help if you specify the exact model nr. of the graphics adapter.

Having had a quick glance at some other problem answers it does seem could be a driver problem.

Interesting that it worked aright for a few days before the problem started, maybe be a Win 10 update.blink.png

Check and update your drivers with the free Drive Booster from iObit:-

http://www.iobit.com/en/driver-booster.php

It's win 10 compatible. If it highlights a lot of outdated drivers, which it could, install the display drivers first till you get the problem sorted.

I use it on Win10 and Win 7 works great.

Status quo

I went to the repair man outside of Tukcom this afternoon and he tested the Graphics card..............No problem it worked OK

Well I knew it was working, what I wanted him to do was to use some advanced software that I didn't know about and give it a stress test over maybe an hour or so. (I had previously stress tested it myself with "Furmark" and it passed without any problem.

Next he tested the PSU, it too passed, he said "they either work or they dont" which I think is not really true,

He tried to sell me a PSU at a cost of 2900 Baht which was obviously for a gaming PC.

I declined and asked for something more powerful than mine which was 450 Watts max and he came up with an Oker PSU with a rating of 650 watts at a cost of 900 Bahts .

This I bought and spent this afternoon putting the PC back together again, I regreased the heat sinks CPU/GPUs, cleaned out the empty case I Had removed the MB to clean all around it etc.

The pc has now been running for over 3 hours without any problem so I am optimistic

I also noted that the GPU fan is stronger and variable which it wasn't before the change of the PSU, the reason for the variable speeds, it seems to me is meeting the changing temps as the GPU is stressed by me using Skype and youtube at the same time as a form of stress testing.

Im keeping my fingers crossed but according to my Skype friend in Bangkok the picture on Skype was a lot better than usual and the sound clearer

Just as a matter of courtesy to the suggestions that it was/is a driver problem, which I dont think it is I also rolled back the drivers before I took the machine to bits , reinstalled them, checked windows update for any new info all to no gain.

In any event Nvidea recently updated all their drivers to win 10 specs and i did that update at the time so I dont think that it was/is a driver issue.

Thank you again for all the suggestions

Thanks for the update, always nice to get feed back. thumbsup.gif

Sometimes I feel I'm wasting my time when people don't bother, even when suggestions don't not work it's nice to know someone bothered to read the post blink.png

Good you got it working

Thanks Daffy

It worked fine for about 4/5 hours continuously, until I went to bad last night, videos, Youtube, all on at the same time no problem

This morning I turned on the PC with bated breath, it worked fine for about one hour and then crashed, same problem again!

I did a test this afternoon, I didn't used any heavy Apps, just email and Thaivisa Etc, no problem at all but when I tested a Youtube video (Old Cowboy film with John Wayne) it crashed every 10/15 minutes. (Maybe the gremlin didn't like my choice of films eh?

Its got the right driver, its got enough power.

The only other thing that came into my head was the varying degree of power we get over here on the dark side from the grid.

I have not had a tester on the job yet but have definitely noticed the Fans (Hatari) always run faster early in the morning and noticeably slow down in the afternoon which is obviously due to more people turning on their ACs, fans etc

My PC is on a heavy used ring main as well and maybe its time for me to run a new dedicated supply.

I have tried everything else I'm just about flummoxed with this problem.

Sounds like you don't have a UPS (uninterruptable power supply) http://www.invadeit.co.th/category/ups/

Basically It takes care of fluctuations in the supply and provides a stable power supply to the computer, also if there is a total black out it will give you some minutes to shut down the computer so it won't crash.

My first thought was a flaky PSU but you've changed that my next thought would be UPS. Don't know if a UPS solves your problem but in this country no computer should be connected to mains power without this protection.

You say the problems stared with when you installed Win 10. Win 10 is very intrusive and there could be a lot of stuff staring up and running in the background that you are not aware of and don't need.

This picture is for removing dual boot but you can go to the same window and click on the "startup" tab to see what is starting and delete anything you feel is unnecessary and you don't want.

Or you can install the free CCleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner go to tools - startup.

I would also check on the running temperatures of your system. A good little program is the free Speccy - http://www.piriform.com/speccy -

That's about all I can think of at the moment

Let us know how you get on smile.png

Thanks once again Daffy for you posts and the good info there in.

I have done all that you suggest and more but it didn't make the slightest difference.

Yesterday morning I decided to roll back to the previous Nvidea driver, this was the one where Nvidea had done some tinkering with Win 10 drivers but had not yet updated to the one where they actually advertise that this driver update was especially for win 10 .

Anyway the PC has now been running some ten hours without crashing, would you believe it?
