Police smash an online soccer gambling den

BANGKOK: Police busted an online soccer gambling den, rounding up 11 suspects and confiscating 11 items of equipment used in operating the gambling in a house raid in Bangkok.

The alleged bookmakers who are also the co-owners of the house in Bangkhen district were identified as Pasu Suthanon and Saravuth Preechaborisutkun .

The items seized include 17 computers, a list of about 2,500 suspected gamblers, 35 cellphones, 23 bank account books, one automatic pistol and others.

Acting metropolitan police commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Sanit Mahathavorn said that the website for online gambling has the server abroad and the operators here are just the brokers who get a 5 percent cut from the gambling revenues.

This gambling den has been in operational for about four months with two groups of customers totaling 3,200 people. The bets range from 50 to 10,000 baht. The den operates in two shifts – from 9 am to 9 pm and 9 pm to 9 am – and each shift is manned by 10 staff members.

How ghastly, running a gambling den facepalm.gif

Better the police find a few real criminals such as murderers and rapists whistling.gif

I would suspect it's just one of many such gambling dens that haven't been smashed. Maybe the arrested 'brokers' will be persuaded to reveal other sites...

Kind of a risky business methinks. You only need 1 big sore loser and the whole thing falls apart. As you know the odds are usually stacked in the houses favor. The odds here of getting caught seem extremely high considering that one sore loser will run off to the cop shop and spill his guts and maybe even get a reward of sorts. I would guess its to late to take out some "insurance" against being raided. Next time they set up it would be wise to contact Brown & Company for anti raid coverage.

The issue is that those guys didn't paid up their fees.

Every Soi has a Football gambling guy running around with a leather bag and taking bets from hundreds of people's daily.

It's very odd that you seem to think that just because arrests were made and reported in this case that no other police investigations or arrests are being made, anywhere. Maybe among the gamblers were a few suspected murderers and rapists.

I am truly confused by the police and government obsession with gambling...gambling is a crime without a victim...why does the Thai government despise gambling, but endorse the lottery?

If the argument is that gambling is a scourge on society and culture, doesn't it make more sense to target corruption, condoned violence against women and children, obvious human trafficking, the absolute lack of integrity/character among the men, or the rampant abuse by the police?

Seriously, Mr. General, are your trusted advisors f@@@ing retarded? Do you really think it is gambling that presents Thailand in a negative light to the rest of the world, or the non-retards who live here and must endure/tolerate the poor excuse for accepted behavior that is Thainess?

Obviously you haven't seen what the aftermath can be ti the family of an addicted gambler......I have and it's not nice. Weekly paycheck gone before it even gets home. Then the borrowing starts, long time friends are lost, children suffer and often the family unit is destroyed. Victimless?? really??
