BANGKOK: -- After City Hall damaged trees on Rama V Road by digging up their roots while building a new walkway in May, they have come up with what they consider a solution to their mistake — just prop the weak trees up with metal structures.

This week, Big Trees, an organization that conserves trees and green spaces, shared photos of City Hall’s new metal bars, put in place to support each tree after a recent storm reportedly knocked some of them down. The trees are very weak because they have compromised root systems.

The project, started in May, aimed to build a sidewalk on top of the tree roots. However, it was poorly planned and widely criticized by residents, including famous architect Duangrit Bunnag who wrote on Facebook that the sidewalk was a “design without common sense.”

What do they mean by sidewalk? I thought they made those surfaces for cart vendors. Normally people walk on the street.

the sidewalk was a “design without common sense.”

What would you expect in a country without common sense?

Stated as "A country where common sense is an uncommon thing".

Idioticus Maximus, a subspecies of Homo Sapiens, is hard at work here.

The criticism was made by a Thai architect and other critical comments were made by Thais.

Given recent events in UK & Europe, as well as the election debacle in the US, a lack of common sense, poor planning and an absence of concern for consequences exist on a far grander scale in Farang Utopia.

Your comment hardly ranks high on a scale of mature, sensible responses.

The idiots here build or repair roads here and plant trees 1/2 meter from road not thinking that the trees grow and encroach on the road ,they either have to keep cutting them or their favourite let them grow over the roads ,why can't Thais think

A fine example of Thailand' arborist skills.

Actually it is not the skills of the arborists which are lacking but the attitude of City Hall who most probably have no arborists on the payroll, nor would they know what one is or what to do with one anyway.

I think that the current governor knows that he will not be re-elected and has no interest in the city at all other than have a long snout.

I also did a Google search for arborists in Thailand and found several in Bangkok.

You should see their roads!

Rocket Science....cheesy.gif

Usually takes out a few homes in Yasothan every May.

Most countries would have just cut them down.

Tree pictured is producing enough oxygen for 2 people to breath.

The trouble is it all just so the motor bikes will have a quicker route
