Jenphop Viraporn, in white, leaves the court building in Ayutthaya province on Thursday with his uncle Charoen Yodkaewlah.

AYUTTHAYA — For the first time, businessman Jenphop Viraporn met with families of the two graduate students he killed in a fiery car crash four months ago, and offered an apology in person.

Although the 37-year-old millionaire offered an apology in Thursday’s negotiation session, arranged by court officials, Jenphop did not yet agree to any financial compensation for the victims’ families.

Jenphop’s not-guilty pleas to most of the charges pressed against him remain unchanged.

Pleading not guilty ????????? This A' h o l e still has no idea he did something wrong, convict him on every charge and lock him up out of sight of everyone for a long time, empty his bank accounts and put the money in his cell......he can use it as a matress

vile excuse for a man

Words are cheap, and it took him like for ever to " apologize " show your sincere regrets by compensating

the bereaved families with a very large amount, and/or set up a scholarship in their names.....

He looks contrite; must have practiced it for a couple of hours before the photo. I love the white; innocence, purity, "{what me, I do something wrong?" "Not possible since I was very very drunk and so no do anything wrong."

I would love to see some of the slime bags in a real court with a real judge.

Maximum sentence should ensue for fatal reckless driving. The other charges will be contested, and he will wriggle free from being under the influence of alcohol/drugs as the police allowed him not to take a sobriety test.

All in all, a despicable person, and all due credit to the victims families for continuing with the court case. No amount of money can bring their children back. I hope he rots in jail.

From the length of his hair, his temple time could be defined as '' short time'' by some skepitics as to his real agenda, as well as remorse.

...this sick pathetic charade goes on.....

...wasn't it clearly murder...or at least vehicular homicide....

...wow......

isn't that for the courts to decide.?

I hate to be negative, but the thought comes to me, that the reason for his apology might be not remorse but part of the strategy to avoid jail

Well, la-di-da! This 1%'er slams into 2 kids & all he says is 'Sorry.' Doesn't pay for the funerals or offers a single baht to the mothers & fathers who lost not just beloved sons, but soon-to-be engineers, doctors, whatever their higher studies were in. This means a serious blow to family finances as well as a hole in their hearts which will never heal.

What were court officers thinking by letting him stand there & 'apologize' (clasping his designer man-purse the whole time) while still insisting he's not guilty? Did they think this would calm public opinion or keep the heat on the bum?

If convicted, I hope they put him in the same jail/prison the boys would have been sent had positions been reversed.

He's been charged with 'fatal reckless driving' which he admits. Other lesser charges, he's pleaded not guilty. The victims families have agreed it was an accident (read linked report), and no doubt the court will take that into account - if it gets that far.

IMO, sentences are ridiculously low for this offence when rich and powerful people are involved, and now its been agreed as an accident, he will probably get a suspended sentence.

Makes me sick.

One of the reasons that he is still alive is the fact that none of the victims were any kin to me or my friends.

Finally an apology a hollow one at best as he refuses to accept responsibility for his actions. All these type of crimes seem to follow the same pattern go to temple to pray refuse to admit guilt lastly go to relatives and plead for forgiveness and take check book with you. I am sure the parents are in the last stages of grief by now and accept what has happened and realize that the monetary option is the only one open sadly. Life here always seem to have a $ value attached.

I see it is a brown paper bag apology. I wonder what is in there? Donuts?

It's probably Pounds Sterling, just to make it cheaper?

Likely the only remorse he feels is that he killed 2 people that were not from the ordinary class but from the upper crust connected "somebody class"

Reckless driving occasioning death seems to be the correct charge... Which he admits to... So by default, has pleaded guilty to it.... Although vehicular manslaughter might be more applicable (but they may not have that category in thai law)

Drop the lessor charges.... They don't account for much, and he will probably win on those, as the highly efficient BIB let him go without compelling a sobriety test (which won't really effect the main charge anyway)

Accidents will happen at 250 km per hour... That's a given... I doubt it needed agreeing to ( it would be a novel way to commit homicide, wouldn't it... Ram someone else at 250 km/h)

So... Having admitted to the main charge... Convict and incarcerate

Then chase the cops on corruption charges.... Or deriliction of duties, for letting him go.

Drives through road barrier.

Drives at 250 KPH.

Drunk or on Drugs. Or both.

No control over his vehicle.

And this doesn't warrant a lengthy prison term ? Wonder why ??

Surely this lack of justice is tarnishing the "good" image of Thailand, that is so cherished .

Makes me sick.

The accused uncle says the victims families agree it was an accident. Maybe they'd like to speak for themselves? The victim's families did apparently say they want to make an example of the accused so others will think more carefully.

Uncle also makes it clear that this was really the first round - meet f2f before real compensation negotiations start and the accused's family try and buy them off as cheaply as possible.

He's trying to avoid the DUI charge as that would go against him in sentencing for the charge he's admitted. As for the police, seems they forgotten about speeding, crashing through a toll barrier, failing to stop at a toll etc etc.

All about damage limitation. Pay off the families for as little as possible, get the least charges possible, plead guilty but express great remorse, show been a monk (well publicized of course), point out never been sent to prison before, learned lesson etc etc. Hope for similar sentence to rich bitch underage driver who got suspended sentence and community services - which she ain't done yet, for multiple deaths.

This was an appalling reckless piece of driving, fueled by who knows what, that would result in a substantial prison sentence and long ban from driving thereafter in any civilized country, regardless of who the family are. But TiT.

If this pos doesn't do lengthy jail time, then Thailand needs "The Star Chamber" By the way, does the uncle look kinda weird or deformed or is it just my imagination?
