Officers at Phra-Inracha Police Station inspect a Mercedes-Benz on March 17 four days after it was involved in a fatal highway crash.

BANGKOK — The trial of a businessman who killed two grad students in a high-speed car crash will get underway next month with a verdict expected before year’s end.

Jenphop Viraporn faces seven charges for killing Krissana Thaworn and Thantapat Horsaengchai with his Mercedes-Benz on March 13 on an Ayutthaya highway, including driving under the influence.

Good! Throw the book at him and after that, throw away the key to his prison cell.

I see idiot drivers like him everytime I'm out on the roads and if Thailand wants to get serious about improving road safety, whom better to make an example of that this piece of garbage.

no amount of money can compensate for the loss of these 2 bright young lives that were lost and dearly missed by their families.

stick your filthy money up your wherever u need when u go to prison.

Wow, you're posting as though you're the families spokesman.

The three parties were brought to the court, by the court, to discuss a possible out of court settlement, an entirely normal procedure that doesn't preclude a sentence given by the court also.

I bet the killer driver though that he can get away with killing to people by buying his way out of it

like many others before him did, and I bet he's got this stupid mixture of horror and amazement look

on his face hearing the news, good on you family, put him in jail for log time and throw away the keys......

He will plead "insanity", will maybe be condemned to stay a few months in some 5-star health center and will be walking free in the streets before April 1st next year.

You must be a COMPLETE fool if you really believe that any court will condemn somebody as rich as Jenphop to anything more than a few nights at a 5-star hotel.

I hope that the families of the victims will get anything, but I am not holding my breath.

Offering compensation is a great idea, better than nothing. But I wonder how much was offered? Maybe it was an insulting low amount?

Good for the family, go for the prosecution. But they'd better get bullet proof vests or body guards in fear of a vindictive wealthy family's retribution.

Anyone who was smart would have accepted the money. Anyone who is not smart would put their trust in the Thai judicial system.

Could have paid some minions with that money to seek justice outside the courts... Oh well, next time.

There are no rich people in jail. Even if he gets sentenced, it won't be him doing the time.

Some other poor sucker will do the stint for the right amount of money.... won't be the first and certainly not the last.

He will be residing in Singapore or Hong Kong for the time of the stint and all is smiles smile.png

That can be arranged anytime or place inside or outside.

So an offer was made to clear this up by the sounds of it.

I cannot see what some arbitrary compensation has to do with it. The law was broken apparently, as seven charges have been made.

The police or any other law officer cannot condone this whether or not there is compensation. The law was broken and this should be pursued through the courts.

I do recall that one of the charges was premeditated murder, I believe, but I cannot agree with this one. Manslaughter OK although I am not that familiar with the degree of these things under thai law.

this is new.

not accepting money?

respecting the dead?

when thais accept money they lose the option to take the person to court. when thais take money they really piss of the dead. Thats why they have to imprison them in the ghost prison outside every piece of land.

when thais DONT SELL OUT they gain value.

thats why famous thai celebs resort to selling hot dogs on ads. its called "greedy lil sellout."

"...the families rejected it (money offered by Jenphop) and demanded full legal proceedings..."

Despite what Viraporn and his supporters may believe they will achieve by his insanity defense in the court system, the video evidence has to be pretty damning, (

).

On only hopes this is one Thai who will be held accountable for his actions.

Firstly, he is not a Hi-so.

Secondly, killing someone on the roads for normal or lo so Thais is usually only 50,000 baht if it is just an accident.

Two families that refuse to take cash for the lives of their children, one would think that most parents would do the same. A wonderful development in my opinion, let's hope the court takes their lack of greed into account and sentences him to 20 years.

Firstly, whilst maybe not a " Hi So" he is from an extremely wealthy family, which means he will expect and receive similar privileged treatment .

Secondly I really don't think it was" just an accident ", do you?

i hear the man in camera car ho ho ho 555'ing, probably expectant of how his latest crash video turned out - as expected of him...

as for the Merc Jerk - he can have his car key back - as he certainly won't be driving THAT car again - a souvenir to keep in his cell to remind him

So who exactly is gonna take the fall for this guy? They will pin it on the last benz mechanic who didn't service the brakes correctly?

He is a hi-so and was only arrested after public outcry. None of the hi-so's ever paid only B 50 k they paid B 1 million for the policeman the Red Bull heir killed and the British/Thai actress paid B 5 million. The practice of paying the victims is outdated and should be replaced by criminal charges in all cases which then can be followed by a civil case.

Given the fact that they have video of him driving through a barrier at a toll booth long before he hit these two young people at a speed of 250 kmh I don't think they will be able to blame a mechanic. Too bad for him that he couldn't get home and blame the chauffeur, difficult I suppose when your car is on its roof.
