Another pathetic display of Thai intelligence; rules what bloody rules. These idiots give you unlimited opportunity for Thai bashing.

Yes, because youths in other countries are so well behaved.

(Every time there's another massacre in the USA, do you conclude that Americans are all stupid?)

Hello, anybody home, we are in and commenting on a Thailand are we not? Why the bloody hell are you bringing up the USA. As you asked the question, I will answer it, Americans have proven there stupidity on enough occasions to be classed as a country of clowns being led around by their balls.

This topic gets brought up every so often. For petrol vapours to ignite you must have an ignition source and the correct petrol vapour/oxygen ratio. All you need is for someone on the forecourt of a petrol station to drop their mobile phone.. if it jars the battery on impact with the ground (and remember, petrol vapours are heavier than air and mobile phone batteries are very powerful these days) it can create a spark, and if that area of impact is roughly 7% petrol vapour & 93% oxygen - boom boom.

Static electricity is by far a greater risk.. however, if you know the dangers (of using a phone in a petrol station forecourt) then you can afford to wait a couple minutes until you leave.

I think people these days rate mobile phone use RISKS in petrol stations alongside mobile phone use and brain tumours.... "mai pen rai" - unless you personally know someone that has been the result!

Mobile phones do not cause fires at petrol stations period. It is static on the cars.

Is that proven fact or just your opinion?

It is a proven fact that mobile phones do not cause fires.

Quite right. The problem with mobile phones and petrol pumps is that they could adversely affect the amount of money charged by the pump when used in close proximity. Modern pumps are screened against this problem.

Correct.

So many incidents of pointless violence. It's the confrontation thing again, a little bit of confrontation and people seem to fly off the handle and resort to violence. All right not everyone but it's easy to get the impression that there are too many that do.

Why did she not just stop using her phone and let him fill up the bikes? It is just so stupid and completely unnecessary.

At least the attendant is alive and well in this incident, and now the idiots face assault charges.

Not sure how it works here but I assume that this appears as a criminal record for the young guys who attacked him? Also, would this not effect their future employment? If of course they had the opportunity to work for legitimate companies. I know it would in many other countries.

You have to realise that Thais never discipline their kids. So when someone dares to try to do that they have no concept that what they are doing might be wrong and so treat it as a challenge. And so many Thais have to bow to authority all their life that they take it out on someone they consider below them on the social ladder - in this case the attendant. Another time it might be the family servant. They are ill-treated so they ill-treat others too.

Don't need to. Most times they prove it by themselves. Why state the obvious

That is not the point, the point is that the regulations say no phone when filling, so most people will ignore the regulations but that is no reason to attack the attendant when he tries to follow the rules

+1 spot on! You hit the nail on the head.

That is exactly the point.

I was trying to make the point that needless violence occurs in every country across the globe and should not be taken as a reason to make derogatory comments about the entire nation's intelligence. Clearly my effort was wasted on you.

Well done very unusual to see someone asking patrons to obey the rules.

Just shows the mentality of Thai youth having a go at the lad for helping to protect their safety.

And the thing is they hvae no thoughts of being arrested or if they can get away showing just how utterly stupid they are.
