Hi everyone,

Here is the situation. I am currently working in BKK and so have a work permit and Visa non Immgrant B still valid till end of december. I lately get fired, and my contract will finish end of July. I have read many things on different websites and I am posting this topic in order to get advice and confirmation regarding the following points.

I live in BKK with my Thai wife and my son ( Thai as well). I would like to stay in thailand for working and I am thus looking for an other job.

1- Is it right that my visa will be cancelled the exact day my work contract end ( which means I have to leave the country) ?

2- I believe that my best option is to leave the country before the end of my work contract (and so my visa) to go in Thai embassy in laos cambodia or whatever., in order to get a tourist visa. (I do not fulfill th econdition for a modification to my current visa to an O one)

3- I would like to get at least 6 additional months, for my job search, in thailand, and I would like to know if I can still get a tourist visa with 2 entries on that pupose (60 days validity + 30 days extension at immigration office then a visa run and again extension process). I have read that it is no longer possible to get this double entry visa at vientiane or in cambodia. Can you confirm and so what are my options ?

Thank you very much for your help.

Do you have a visa or did you do an extension at Immigration within Thailand?

An extension would be cancelled the day your work finished

A visa is valid till its expiry date

Thanks both for your answer.

I have read as well that you must apply for 7 days extension.

That leads me to my second point. Where can I do a double entry visa easily (I am from Bkk) ?

No more double entry visas are being issued, only single or Multi entry visas. Where you get a multi depends on your nationality as usually it will be your own country.

Single entry O visa based on marriage you could get in a Thai consulate in a nearby country, some require to show money in your bank some don't, others will post no doubt with that information.

Eg Penang Malaysia require 200,000 baht in your bank.

Here is my conclusion. I will go to Malaysia Kuala Lunpur or Penang to make a tourist visa simple entry ( as apparently it is no longer possible to get anywhere a Tourist multy entry visa(METV), except from your homecountry).

However I will still have my visa non-B valid at the moment I will apply for my tourist visa. Is that an issue or should I make kind of cancellation of this visa before ?

Thanks for the support (I did not think I will be that tedious to get a visa...)facepalm.gif

If you were fired and the school canceled your work permit on you, you are currently on over stay. They don't always coordinate with other departments but technically your extension is based on the work permit and if that is cancelled so is your extension. There was a 7 day grace period years ago and I don't know if it is still in effect. 4 years ago when I cancelled my work permit immigration in Chiangmai told me that I had to leave that day.

If you are married, then it is better to extend based on that, then even if you lose your job, you don't have to leave the country immediately.

With all the hassles of everything and if you are not far from a border, then the 1 year multiple entry isn't a bad option.
