Skytrain

Featured Replies

When is skytrain to Don Mueang due for completion & what downtown stations will it serve?

Officially the Red Line is due to open in 2020, serves the same stations as the current SRT (which will move on to the viaduct as well) as far as Rangsit.

It ends at the huge Bang Sue Grand station where you can transfer to the MRT for the trip in to town.

All the info you need is in this thread, the suburban line will eventually be some 87kms long running from Thammasat uni to Mahachai.

From an article in the BP last week...

However, the governor insisted if the construction period is to be extended, the SRT will make sure that it will not put back the Red Line's planned launch in early 2020.

He added the SRT will also hold discussions with the two contractors next month to have them adjust their work schedules to ensure they are consistent.

Under the plan, the infrastructure construction of the Red Line is scheduled to be completed in 2018 after which installation of the train and signalling systems can proceed in 2019.

According to Mr Wuthichart, construction of the Red Line near Thung Song Hong station is about 70% complete, but the work is still behind schedule.

Its not so bad in that area but there is no track in place from wat samian naree southwards and Phahonyothin station is also progressing slowly. I suspect it won't be ready this decade.

Digging up an old topic, but isn't the new skytrain from Don Mueang supposed to link to the ARL at Phaya Thai?

There is a project in the pipeline to extend the ARL round to DMK via Bang Sue, but it's not part of the current Red Line job.
