A family member is to undergo “Thumb Arthroplasty and Ligament Reconstruction” on one hand. This requires a skilled surgeon, and although it is only a two-hour procedure with a single night in hospital, Bumrungrad’s estimate, not including follow-up treatments, is roughly 250k baht, and with multiple flights to and from Bangkok (we live near the Ubon-Sisaket border), plus hotel expenses, it will go well beyond that. We’ve used Bumrungrad for thirty years and have always been pleased with the quality of their service, but this does seem somewhat high. Of course, it may not be – and we are likely to pay it anyway without complaint. However, we are wondering if any TV members have had experience with this surgical procedure elsewhere at a more modest cost.

Bumrungrad's rates have gone way up and continue to rise.

I suggest consulting Dr. Panupan at either Phyathai or Siriraj private wing. However DO NOT email tbe hospital for a quote as this always leads to an inflated price (and indeed, the doctor does need to examine the patient to be clear on what is needed).

I doubt it would run to more than half what you were quoted at B.

Yes, I've been a patient at Bumrungrad for 15 years but it seems timeto seek somewhere cheaper. A friend uses St. Louis but that seems to be expensive too. Another friend uses Samitivej but I don't know how much he pays. Any general recommendations, Sheryl? I especially need a place for my yearly echocardiograms.

Thanks very much, Sheryl. We will try to get back Bkk soon and contact Dr. Panupan.

There is no one "place" you should use...need to select the doctor.

For cardiac I sugggest Dr. Taworn at Bangkok Christian Hospital.

BCH and St. Louis are both significantly less expensive than Bumrungrad. Samitivej and Bumrungrad are usually about the same in cost.
