BANGKOK: -- A committee will be set up to consider disciplinary action against Ban Phai mayor Dr Premsak Piayura after a fact-finding team has found out that there is enough ground to believe that the former Pheu Thai MP illegally detained a group of reporters at his office and one of them was forced to strip to his underwear.

Khon Kaen governor Kamthorn Thavornsathit told the media at Khon Kaen provincial hall on Thursday that the five-member disciplinary panel would be headed by a deputy governor and the panel would be given 120 days to come up with a recommendation on the disciplinary action.

He said if the panel could not finish the probe within the deadline, it can be extended by 30 days twice.

Governor Kamthorn assured that the fact-finding committee had been fair to the two opposing sides, Dr Premsak on one side and the victimized reporters on the other side. The committee had questioned witnesses of the two sides.

The alleged illegal detention of the local reporters, including one from Daily News who was forced to strip to his underwear, stemmed from a video clip in the social media which showed Dr Premsak act in a way which looks like he was proposing a young girl.

The clip went viral in the social media and the reporters went to the mayor’s office last month to interview him about the clip.

120 days (which may be extended by a further 30) to come up with a "recommendation on the disciplinary action". A recommendation, not a result! What on earth is there to investigate for a possible 150 days, either it happened or it did not.

Complex beach murder cases, bombing incidents etc can all be resolved faster than that time period.

But then again, the alleged perpitrators in those incidents where not "conected".

There is no end to the excuses for failure to complete the assigned tasks. Four months and then can be extended for another two, to figure out what?

That's a total of 6 months. It'll all be forgotten by then.

If Premsak is disciplined, ie., removed from office, will the deputy governor take his place?

That's the whole idea
