Hi,I have an Irish Passport and am currently in Aus. on a visitors visa .My Thai wife wants to come here also .( she has a Thai friend with Aus citizenship ,who can put her up ,and write a letter or email to that affect  ). She has her own hair saloon in Chiang mai .Nothing posh so her income is small .She also has two young kids in Thailand ,who will not be travelling with her .

When she applies for the visa is she better off just asking for a month  ?,and am i right in thinking she will get 3 months anyway ? (as visitor visa is for 3,6 or 12 months ).She has started keeping her bank book up to date ,but what king of balance will she require ? (how much does she need in the Bank ) .

Maybe somebody here has gone through similar and can answer. Finally is she better off to use a Visa agent ?Her English is limited .She can not read English .Thanks for any help.

Thai nationals can apply for Australian visitor visas online and upload supporting documents here: https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/600-/Visitor-e600-visa-online-applications

Generally, visas allow for three months stay on each entry. At the (varying) discretion of the immigration officer who processes the application, the visa may be valid for single or multiple entries, and may be valid for use up to one year following the date of grant - it's hard to predict.

When the visa is granted, it is electronically linked to the applicants passport, meaning that there is no need to go to the visa centre to get a visa sticker. All very convenient.

Thanks for the corrections. The biometric requirement must be quite recent. Around a year ago we were sending our employees to visit Oz and there was no need for it then.

They bought it in like a month or two ago. They are making everyone do it now. So it will be a slight hassle unfortunately.

You don't need a visa agent. However some of your OP confuses me. Your in AU? ..Why are you not the sponsor. You might wish to Google Thai gf to Australia. I left gaps but you get the gist.

Its an easy process if you can prove that host can support her. Don't wish to sound negative but if your a backpacker bumming around AU and wish to meet up with Thai gf relying on sponsor being a Thai national living here..... Good luck with that.

She does tick some boxes re "necessity to return to Thailand"... Strangely children don't count as much as most would imagine (they should).

Job being self employed is dubious. Yes crazy I agree.

IMHO if YOU cannot demonstrate support/sponsor for her they your stuffed. And rightly should be.

Also she is entering alone.

Good luck.

Frankly if I was assessing her given you OP and your personal circumstances, I would stamp NO, every day of the week.

Having said all that I really hope your Thai gf gets her visa to meet you.

As for your other Q... First app if successful she most likely will be be given single entry for 3 month.

Next will be easy and she will be given 12 month multiple entry.

On application (since its dubious) I would tick 3 month single entry.

Good luck
