NZ Herald do not seem to have a clue about Pattani as even their own government issues travel warnings for that part of the country.

Pattaya, Pattani, they were close...

Car bomb, looks like they are upping the game,as

the bombs are usually fitted into motorbikes, not

a good sign, they also seem to be taking it up country

to tourist areas.

If they are indeed upping their game,   changing tactics etc it's a worrying situation as the campaign could expand.

There's no way of knowing yet when this bombing was planned but as many posters pointed out two weeks ago the govt may have inadvertently issued a challenge by the public announcements they made that all was well and under control

Something a bit odd with this report!

It's been running on a number of media sites in UK, Aus,  and NZ. But, there is nothing coming from Thai media!

Keep your eye on it , as lots are reported outside of Thailand on various issues like student Democracy protests and nothing in the Thai press , the Junta will keep the lid on anything that will damage it's and or Thailand's tourist reputation,  where it can.

Yes ...the censorship is now dangerous.

Tourists in Phuket may not be told ISIS are planning attacks .

Or indeed if a large earthquake triggers a Tsunami ....

Wait and see policies

What terrorist attack?

Except when they tried to attack Bangkok on New Year 2008 (bombs didn't go off thankfully) and a couple of weeks ago on the Queen's birthday where the BRN set off bombs around the country.

Hoping that the bombings won't spread North is a naivety especially under the junta's leadership. Their constant refusal to acknowledge the group responsible for the bombs on August 12th and refusal to enter into dialogue will see the insurgency campaign escalate and start to affect tourism IMO. Hope I am wrong but doesn't look like it.

I believe a couple of days after the last lot of bombings the government said that it was going to enter dialogue with them, which is a a tacit acknowledgement that they were responsible for the bombings. dont have a link but it should be here somewhere

There is plenty in the Thai press about both the bombs and the student activists. I suggest you read the 2 mass dailiesThai Rath and Daily News.

I'm not suggesting conspiracy theory, but it did seem odd!

It finally appeared on the BP's web site over 7 hours after the event!, and at 08:45 Bangkok Time on The Nation web pages.

It's not really surprising that the Government have kept mum about this latest bombing. They are desperately trying to regroup from the adverse reaction on tourism from the bombings two weeks ago. This bomb is exactly what they didn't want to happen. In the normal course of events this would be just another bomb going off in the 'troubled South' which normally would receive little attention in either the Thai or overseas press. Coming so soon after the spate of bombings a fortnight ago of course it's going to get international coverage.

We still don't know who was responsible for the spate of bombs around Hua Hin and Phuket, perhaps we never will, but this latest bombing (IMO) appears to be the normal for bombings in the area. A hotel (where liquior presumably sold), a typical 'double tap' bombings (one closely followed by another) and the fact that it took place in the Deep Islamic South. A normal(?) bombing by Southern separatists IMO. From now on every time a bomb is detonated in Thailand whether it be in the restless South or not the media is going to report it and there's nothing the authorities can do about it. The Tourist Authorities must be tearing their hair out in private, whilst publicly assuring all is well.

Double tap bombings are a regular occurrence. So, why isn't each bomb squad given explosives-sniffing dogs which can be sent in quickly to detect a second bomb?

But why do people in these troubled areas hang around after an explosion? Are the authorities doing enough to educate them about the double-tap concept?

There isn`t any proof that the bombings mentioned  above has anything to do with the unrest in the Deep South.

Not a pleasant thought so will the junta stick their heads in the sand rather than accept the potential   ?

Yes ....the west is deliberately allowing potential Tourists to see. Carnage continues in Thailand and their assurances all was returning to normal failed.

The location matters not when your removing a junta

It was on the Australian ABC news at 0700 EST which was 0400 in Thailand.

A fanboy hoping against hope that it was the Redshirts, so that it would give the junta some sort of legitimacy.

Its like the supposed internet gateway choke point. We now have a choke point on all negative news that effects tourism. You have to keep them coming regardless. As you can see by looking around the world we are in a tourism war no prisoners taken. Your loss is our gain. Govt condemns 'barbaric' bomb attack on deep south hotel

By Teeranai Charuvastra, Staff Reporter -

Police officers on Wedneday morning inspect the site of the deadly twin car bomb that struck a hotel in Pattani province.

PATTANI — The government on Wednesday condemned a twin car bomb at a hotel in the southern border province of Pattani that left one person dead and at least 30 others injured, including women and children.

The attacks, which included a use of stolen ambulance, came nearly two weeks after the wave of explosions and firebombs across seven provinces that some experts believe were works of the same separatists based in Pattani and its neighboring provinces.

So much for "safe to go back in the water",

Can't say I disagree with the NZ Embassy issuing a "be careful " notice in the 3 southern provinces.

They are just being prudent

I think this is a war that is widening, worsening and needs to be recognized by the junta as such. The BRN militants have crossed the line and the south is out of control, the central parts are threatened and even Bangkok is on edge. PM Prayuth do something! Talk to this group, compromise, set up peaceful dialogue, solve the problem before the war worsens to the point of chaos, panic and more innocent lives lost.

it is possible the boss has the media on lock down on reporting any future bombings. guy has absolute control so it would not surprise me.

Would not surprise me. The referendum is now over and he is in complete control. The suppression squad is not doubt out in full force.

The bombings and fights between Muslims and Thais have gone on for years and to expect a stop is not realistic, the same for southern Philippines you still have bombings and kidnappings there even with us military presence. Tourist just have to stay away from those areas. The sad things is that wherever you are in the world including the US you have to keep out of the crowds and make sure you are aware of your surroundings. These radical Islamist have been around for decades and will not disappear, they just get more fuel from people like president to be Donald Trump.

So what then should Mr Trump do? Praise them?? Give them a pat on the back???
