Car bomb blast outside hotel in Thailand leaves one dead and 29 injured

Stolen hospital ambulance used in car bomb attack at hotel in Pattani

 

 

PATTANI: -- The Internal Security Operations  Forward Command in the South said before noon today that a stolen hospital ambulance was used by southern militants in the car bomb attack at the Southern View Pattani Hotel last night.

 

The command spokesman said investigation of the bomb attack at the hotel revealed that the ambulance of the Songserm Sukaparb hospital in Tambon Pakaharang local administration was parked in front of the driver’s house when it was stolen last night.

 

He said such theft of ambulace for terrorism attack was totally unacceptable as hospital ambulance is a vehicle that transports sick and injured people to hospital and is the sign of humanity aids.

 

But this time it was stolen by the militants as tool to carry out bomb attack that caused deaths and injuries of so many innocent people, he said.

 

The bomb attacks caused have damages to the hotel and adjacent shop buildings and vehicles.

 

Security officials were checking CCTVs in the areas to hunt down the escaping militants.

Car/ambulance bomb... hotel... this sets a dangerous precedent and a worrying escalation from the norm in the deep South of using bombs implanted on motorcycles and targeting soldiers etc.   Meanwhile the as yet unsolved Hua Hin/Phuket etc bombs on Aug 12 are likely never to be solved, yet many absolutely pin it on 'Southern insurgents' (despite suspicion someone hired Southern elements and used Malaysian phones to further cover-up). Also, the Erawan bomb case looks like yet another complete cover-up job.   

This is all very worrying because 'if' there is indeed a different mastermind (than Southern groups) behind the 'Mothers day' Hua Hin/Phuket etc (Samui) bombs, they can now escalate to using car bombs in other locations and with impunity as most would 'simply' pin the blame on Southern insurgents. With this precedent now set and with some running out of time and becoming more desperate, one greatly worries escalated and larger scale attacks may be ahead and in locations other than the deep South.

Violence and bombings place tourists at risk.

This seems now a very clear indication a bombing campaign has begun .

I went to Pattini and Yala area years ago with my Thai family from BKK,

they were nervous all the time we were there  on our day stop over,

We had taken a train overnight and got in to Hat Yai at 7AM did our temple

tour, and were on the train back to Bangkok by that evening.  I did feel

less relaxed as well,  as most people around us did not dress as we did

and it was great to be back in BKK.  I would never want to go to the south,

now,  as the unrest has gotten out of hand. The bombings are ridiculous ,

I do feel sorry for the innocent people there who have suffered so much.

Yes ....as the bombings spread that experience will be more common .

Hua Hin and Phuket ..mainstream tourists destinations .

In the video the negotiator, Hassan Taib, said insurgents required Bangkok to recognize a new independent state encompassing the provinces of Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani. which made up much of the former Sultanate of Patani. The second Pattani car bomb victim died at hospital

PATTANI, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- A remand order has been issued by the Thai Military for the two ambulance drivers involved in Tuesday night's bomb attack near here, which left one woman dead and 34 others injured.

Military Spokesman Colonel Pramoth Prom-in said that the military court has issued a seven day remand, beginning Friday for both suspects.

"If investigations reveal that there is no evidence linking them (the suspects) to the stolen ambulance or links between them and any Pattani militant groups, they would be released in seven days," Pramoth said Thursday.

However, if investigations revealed otherwise, the suspects would be remanded for 21 days before being brought to court.
