Where to have custom orthopedic insoles inserts made in Bangkok

Hi

I would like to get some  orthopedic  insoles made ,  probably in the Bangkok area

is there anyplace that does the 3D scan of your foot and then makes them to order ?

and do you just bring the shoes you want them fitted to or ??????

What would this cost ?   and how long do they last  ?  Any other questions to ask when I get them made ?

Thanks for your help

I can't answer re the methodology used nor precise costs and time - though I doubt 3-D scans are used. I think most places take a manual mold of your foot.

The various options  in Bangkok:

1. Least expensive (probably by a lot) is the clinic affiliated with the Mahidol Univ School of OPrthotics & Prosthetics. Thonburi side of the river.  While costing the least, will also entail the most time like all public services - waits, queues, red tape etc.

2. Western orthotic providers  - small clinics, not chains:

1. Henry G. Joensen - Orthotic & Biomechanics Consultant (02) 292 - 1200 <[email protected]>  (favorable feedback from several TV members)

2. http://www.footcontrol.co.th/

3. Mark Leoni - chiropracter who also makes orthotics http://thailandchiropractor.com/contact-us/

3. Private for-profit chain (probably the most expensive):

There may be more but these are what I know of.

Let us know where you go and your impressions as would be good to have more feedback on this.

There used to be a farang (German?) in Pattaya doing this but I dont know if he still does.

I've worn orthopaedic insoles for years. The last lot I had made about 10 years ago in Europe before I retired. They stood me on a pressure sensor device that gave a visual indication of where my soles touched the floor properly or not, and then they made the insoles by hand. No scanner or foot mould was used. The pressure device used was very similar to the second device in the video, to the right of the screen.

I'm a bit dubious about the 3D scanner device in the video as if you are sitting down the pressure points would presumably be very different to when you are standing up. They certainly are for me when I'm sitting down. I like the idea of the 3D cutter (it's not a printer) to make the insole though. Mine were done the classical way with lumps of hard foam glued between two sheets of leather and whilst they do work well a single piece sounds more sensible. Insoles on the cutter could be done while you wait also, which beats making two trips as I had to do.

I talked to my friend and his wife has had custom orthopedic insoles for years ,

but he says these are hard plastic ????

is this normal ?   do you put something soft and "squishy" on top of them ?

I thought they were a harder foam rubber that still had a lot of bounce in them !

thanks for the info

My insoles are hard. I put them under a thin cushioned liner (normally the one that comes with the shoes).

The whole point of the insoles is that they have to be hard otherwise they wont provide the needed support for very long.

Are orthopaedic inserts only for folks with foot problems, or is there a general benefit for everyone?

I have used 'footcontrol' a couple of times over the past 8 years or so.  Very happy with the results.

I agree. Henry is excellent and knowledgeable. He makes them for athletes as well as people with flat feet etc... Prices are very high, but quality is too.  The best in Bangkok AFAIK.

A good question. Those with problems should get the benefit immediately: mine made me stand differently the instant they were fitted and all foot pain went away within a few days, never to return. I suspect that those without obvious problems would probably get some benefit long-term as it should help stave off future problems, especially if they are overweight or do a lot of standing/walking/running.

No idea about Bangkok but I seem to remember that in Europe I paid about 80Eur (~3,200B) for two pairs about 10 years ago. That included all tests, fitting etc.

Price is about 10,000 Baht/pair now in BKK including cast molds, etc.,

That's quite a lot, but mine never required any casts or moulds. I just stood on the pressure sensor and they worked it out from that.

Maybe it depends on what particular problem you have?

All the most professional orthotics providers take a mould, but it is a modern material now, you just step on it lightly. However, it's much more than that. A good trained professional will check for your hip alignment, and be careful with the pressure you put when stepping onto the mould. I was also told that the cheaper providers just send these moulds off to Australia and that there are providers that then send them back. Custom made and fitted ones are more expensive.

Footcontrol casts the feet and builds on the plaster casts with imported materials from Germany in their own lab here in Bangkok and has fitting and a follow up service if any alterations are needed.
