Thai girls warned - beware of being forced into sex trade abroad

BANGKOK: -- The Chiang Mai labor office has warned Thai women who want to work abroad to be careful about being lured into the sex trade.

The warning comes after it has emerged that four women who went to work in Kuala Lumpur ended up locked up and forced into providing sex services in the Malaysian capital, reported  Thairath

The women - from Chiang Mai, Sisaket and Songkhla - are currently being accommodated in a home for abused women in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, and investigations will take between four and nine months.

They are unable to return home to their families in Thailand while the case is pursued.

Yaowapha Phibunphon warned Thai women about believing the offers of agents who proliferate on Facebook or Line who offer work in massage and spa facilities or restaurants.

She singled out Bahrain - where victims were rescued from earlier this year - Taiwan, South Korea as well as Malaysia as problem countries.

She said that these agents often get mere tourist visas for victims who end up locked up with their passports removed. They are unable to contact relatives and are forced into the sex trade.

Yaowapha said that women who want to work abroad should go through official channels with agencies registered and checked by the labor department to ensure they are not tricked.

The only way to stop this is to air-condition all the rice fields, and implement a multi-fold increase in the minimum wage.

Increase in wages will lead to an increase in household debt. People will just buy a more expensive car.

Been reading the same ' advise ' for many years already,  most of those girls

have an inkling of what waiting for them overseas, but the lure of the extra

cash and coming back home with gold ornaments and pockets full of money

to help the family is too strong at time.......

That worked in Europe didn't it?  Or America?  No.  It only raised the prices.  I believe there are one million prostitutes in America and the alternative is not rice fields.

Problem is greed, they love money too much, got a load of thai hookers in singapore chasing the $ but they all look voluntary to me !
Other issue is indeed education, employment options & class issues in thailand meaning little chance of good income employment.
No big money in it, or they waste most of it as seen a few at singapore airport struggling get flights back to thailand as tend pay high prices at ticket counters as not clued up on online tickets or have no online payment ability  ... Many on overstay to, fun if get see them trying go through airport :-)

Know of a few girls who went as tourists..to Korea, but they were disappointed that they were not allowed to sell sex. They left that Massage Parlor and went to one that allowed it.

They were deported within days...and were very unhappy.

Well....this is not always the way it is.....but you would think that the word would get out.   Everyone in the small town where we lived knows what the deal is when a young lady goes to Korea as a "tourist".   It is always "left in the air" about what they do.   You ask their relatives, and they just say..."good luck, she can stay and work 2 years"....but you won't get anything else back.

How can you possibly know what "most of those girls have an inkling of"?

problem is there are fewer and fewer johns coming to thailand so the girls gotta go look abroad. i know a few who do it for a month at a time. works for them but they know what they are getting themselves into.

I think there is a big difference from those choosing to go for short periods and work in the sex trade to those who get conned and then ruthlessly exploited.

I saw two Thai "ladies" get deported from Bahrain. The police were treating them nicely and handed them to gate staff. The girls were told they'd be boarded first and to wait near the gate. They spent the time chatting up single blokes and exchanging mobile numbers. They arranged to see a couple of guys on the plane and talking, quite loudly, about spending time with them in Thailand. Hardly rescued in their case.

But that's very different to those imprisoned in Bahrain in some dingy brothel with their passports taken who were rescued by the authorities.

A huge amount of western prostitutes have drug problems.  They are selling their bodies to feed their habit.

Problem is the girls can't ( won't ) read...

Just opening their eyes would tell them that sex in many places in Europe costs less than for farangs in Thailand and hookers from allover the world are available in the Middle East. So what chances do they have to make big bucks abroad ??

lazy Thai woman / girls will always look for easy way to get money and most realise at an early stage that they are sitting on their best asset .

Does being lazy and wanting money mean they deserve to be abused, imprisoned and kept as slaves?

As the old saying goes "a pretty woman can be sat on a goldmine,if she so chooses"........:whistling:

I dont think these girls have the choice.   The goldmine goes into the pockets of the pimps and traffickers.

Plenty of hi-so ladies in BKK  earning a fortune without being "trafficked or pimped"
