Divorce in Thailand different Ampur

Featured Replies

I originally was married in the ampur in Bangkok but would like to get my divorce in Pattaya.

I read on Siam legal website it says you need a translated copy of passport if you are getting the divorce at a different ampur.

Is this true do I need this? If so is there a relatively fast way of obtaining this?

Yes you can divorce at a different Amphur and yes you do need your passport translating.

Once you have the translation you then need to take it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok to be stamped as a true translation.

By far the easiest way to do this is to get a translation service in Bangkok to do your translation and also for a reasonable fee they will take it to the MFA and get it stamped for you and then post it to your address.

I have had problems getting divorced at an other ampur they just would not do it. I wanted an other one because the first one was asking a legalised translated copy of the passport. The translating part is ok but my embassy just does not legalize that.

So I went to other ampurs and some just could not be bothered (even though your allowed to they will say its not). Finally found one and it was done quickly.

As said above the legalization in Thailand is done by MFA - not by your Embassy.  Simple process as done when you get married here and legalize the Embassy letter of being able to marry.  Local officials need the Thai translation and for it to have been recorded by MFA in Bangkok.  There is no reason a Pattaya translation service could not provide this service.

I got devorced in different amphur ,needed

both original certificate

my passport ,not translated

Id wife

2 witness, with id, I used a farang and his wife ,took about 30 minutes ,this was about 2 years ago

As has already been stated different amphurs have different interpretations of the rules but the obvious general requirement is the husbands passport and unless it has been translated and stamped by the MFA then it is not a legal document and if it has been accepted without the MFA stamp then it is a mistake by the amphur who accepted it.
