Hi all. My wife took our 2012 Captiva in to the Chevy dealership to get the 75,000 km service done. The mechanics told the wife there was was a hole in the rubber hose which supplies air to the turbo. The wife said okay change it. I have attached a pic of the rubber hose and a short piece of thin pipe which is the piece they replaced. What I do not understand is the part is non moving so how can it get a hole. There is only air travelling thru the pipe so there should be no corrosion. Also why did they change the pipe/hose when they could have just changed the hose? I can not believe that Chevy Thailand can charge 15,963 baht for this piece. Total bill 18,307.70 baht. Also I looked for a hole in the rubber hose and cannot find one. I will be taking this piece back to the service center and making a complaint to the service department. Anyone else ever felt extorted after taking your vehicle for servicing? I have attached a pic of the part.

Scams like this happen often here,in one of my Nissan services I was charged for a new air filter (not particularly expensive) when I actually saw them just blow it out with compressed air,an email to Nissan HQ was followed a couple of days later with a call from the local dealership explaining it was simply an oversight and a refund was given.

I would definately go back to your dealership and complain...

I feel that they take advantage of people, women in particular that have no mechanical knowledge. I will be going back to the dealership as I feel if there is indeed a hole in the hose, that that is the only part that should have been changed. When I told my wife my intentions of going back to customer service I was told I can go by myself. Typical Thai response. That is why so much of these ripoffs take place.

For sure it is a replaceable hose. There are screw clamps on both ends. If it was in my own country someone would be getting a sore ear. Don't want to get to carried away at the dealership. The thai loss of face thing.

I watch them like a hawk! I was ripped rather badly at a Ford dealer a few years ago, and since then I rarely take it in to a dealer for routine maintenance.

Good luck.

Does anyone know of where to send a complaint to the head of customer service for Chevy Thailand? I have google it and tried a few emails that will not even go through. Cheers.

If a fault is found over the Service Check they won't fit an expensive part like that without getting a Signature and telling the Customer how much it is

GM 95494525

Do you want to know what this part cost for German "Opel" brand (a GM company) ? :whistling:

(link to German site on request, TV language police is on high alert)

596,02 EUR !!!

Approx. 22000 Baht.

(some sites have somewhat lower prices but all in the 500 Euro range)

Yes, that happens if you follow the advice to only use your original dealer service.

The rubber part has a hole.

GM only supplies the whole thing incl. expensive metal part.

Somchai's repair shack would have fixed it for xxx Baht I guess.

Well don't give the Mrs a hard time l always take cars in because my Mrs would have a clue.

Yeah take it back and ask them to get the manager and ask him to show you where the leak is but don't let it out of your sight.

Next time take the motor to where l am always plugging a ' Cockpit '  dealer.

We well l don't use any main dealers here anymore the Toyota franchisee are always trying to up the bill with something.

Honda are not too bad but still try to flop you off trying to sell additives.

I would have thought that a hole in a rubber pipe that carries only air could just be plugged with no need to fit anything new at all. They plug holes in car tyres very successfully for minimal cost, even here.

I always used a dealership in Bangkok and was always satisfied. Was able to communicate with the service staff. In Pattaya it is like they do not want to communicate. You talk to the service people out front and ask a few questions, they basically tell you to go talk to  Chevrolet Thailand. I have sent a email to  Chevrolet Thailand, have to wait and see what response I get. Thanks OMGIminPattaya.

To Ace of Pop. Yes the wife signed the paper to get the part ordered. What I am getting at is I do not know why the part was changed. I have visually checked the part for a hole and taped it up putting it under air pressure 5 to 20 psi with a bicycle pump while submerging it under water. Could find no leaks.

We had a Trailblazer from Ubon Rat,when they came out here ,very good folks too. Cant blame them taking long time for a rear door after Tuna Yob munched it at the lights.Thats GMs spares fault

With Ford you can extend your warranty up to 5 years in total for not much more than the cost of that part ......:)

Absolutely essential with a FORD............

I think I'd want a marriage warranty with a ford ~ till death fo us part lol.

If a car is out of warranty it's best to find a regular garage that will normally fix the part or at least get a cheaper replacement part.

I bet that letal part was part of s set and sold as such, even thought its not needed.

TBH Trans ... if I had that option on any new car I would take it. Modern cars are far more 'technical' than that old banger of yours ... no offence mate... I don't have to concern myself with any problems for the next four and three quarter years. Even if it breaks down on the road Ford will come out and sort.

My last visit to Ford, I arrived at 09:30, car was ready at 10:30 and I was charged three hours labour.

Never use the main dealer for your services was the message.

A month ago, I went to a local shop as there was some flapping leaves sound in the air con after a one month visit home to the UK. He quoted me 2000B+ for an air con clean and an unknown amount for an oil change as he had never used Castrol Magnatec, Thought that was a bit odd, so off I went to a car air con specialist. 2 minutes it took him to get the rats nest out of the filter. Quick check, air con is fine, no need for a clean. 100B. Spotted a car wash, (they often do oil changes), 1200B for the Castrol Magnatec, oil filter change, wash, polish and clean inside. I seem to remember paying Ford about 1700B for an inferior quality oil, when I was in the free labour voucher period.

Shop around.

How many people had been working on your car?

Be carefull when you use "Somchai's garage" and make sure they do a safe job. I been bringing back an old Porsche to life the last years after it been "serviced" by "Somchai" for 25 years or so. Most of the job's I had to do was to bring the car back to original as many of the "fixes" done earlier was really dangerous.

A good independent garage will give you the options to use original, aftermarket or parts from other cars that might "fit" depending on you budget.

Ony bad thing with aFord here is the Thais Know only Ferangs And Newbie Thais buy em. They are regarded like an Old Scoda joke to Thais in business like express delivery

Sounds exactly like my experience. A/C rattling in the blower compartment. Took it to a Ford dealer in C.M. The truck was one year old. They said since I bought it second hand Warranty was VOID. The actually called Ford and voided the warranty while was sitting there. Then wanted me to sigh an paper for a minimum charge of a few hundred Baht. I left.
Went to a A/C shop they pulled the glove box and dropped the blower and pulled out the leaves. NO CHARGE!!!!! Needless to say when my compressor went out I took it back there and they installed a new compressor for 5000 Baht(great shop)...

"Amazing Ford".... I avoid them whenever I can.

A bit late sorry. but i would take it down to your local side of the moto tyre shop ask to pressure test...check for leak. As easy as 2 rags 1 in each end and a compressed air nozzle or an old valve torn off an old tube. You wont get a perfect seal at either end but with 100psi at his compressor you dont want a perfect seal. Stick it in a bucket off water and look for bubbles. Maybe youve been had or maybe there was a hole wich could lead to dust getting sucked in and killing your turbo.big $. Also being no obvious brackets supporting the steel pipe it is prone to crack at the mounting flange. I have no experience with that car and maybe they are prone to failure around those klms. May have been had may have been saved.
