Phuket former land officer hangs himself

 

 

PHUKET: -- A former land officer in Phuket province has taken his own life at the custody of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) which is investigating encroachment of forest and national parks in Phuket by influential people and businessmen.

 

DSI director-general Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang confirmed this morning that Mr Thawatchai Anukul, former land officer in Phuket, hanged himself in the DSI prison in Bangkok last night.

 

The DSI chief said officials found him hanged himself with the shirt he wore while inspecting the order in the cells late last night.

He was immediately rushed to a nearest hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

 

He said the DSI officials were scheduled to escort the former land officer from the DSI cell to the Criminal Court this morning for permission to extend his detention period.

 

The former land officer was accused of issuing land title deeds worth tens of thousands of baht to influential people and businessmen in Phuket and Phang Nga provinces.

 

He said the exact cause of his death is still under examination by forensic police.

 

But he said the former land officer faced several charges involving the illegal issuance of land ownership in forest reserves and national park areas in the two provinces.

 

He was earlier sentenced in prison by provincial court and was also facing investigation of malfeasance by the DSI.

 

He said initially he was believed to take his own life out of extreme stress from facing several charges.

Dead men don't talk.

Now they got someone to blame everything on.

 

RIP

Hung himself or helped a bit by unknown people.

If he is dead he cannot spill the beans on  people higher up the pecking order.

We may as well just remove the term "Suicide" from all TVF News articles before posting them because everybody treats it as a synonym for homicide anyway.

Selling land parcels in National Forests  to influential people?

 

I bet this was a guy very unhappy with the Junta.

Tens of thousands of bath? That must have been decades ago then. Nowerdays you wouldn't get a piece of swamp behind a pig farm for that kind of money.

I wonder if these influential people will ever be names or brought to any kind of justice?

 

I am taking bets now.

In other news he hung himself with his socks tied together. Good grief do get your story straight. The word 'suicide' was posted in quotes also.

The only surprise here is the missing statement he committed suicide as a victim of a love triangle.

You're right of course, how could any reasonable person ever think that it might be a bit shonky for a material witness to be murdered before he gives evidence against some suspected hi-so's? Of course he wore special stretch socks just so he could commit suicide whenever he felt like it!

Very lucky land officer to be able to secure a cell on his own!
