Non 'O' Single over 55 Vientiane. Checklist.

Featured Replies

It's a little way off yet, but after my refusal in Penang, I want to make sure I get this right.

On the Visa application where it says:

Occupation ...I have put RETIRED

Purpose of visit...RETIREMENT

Guarantor in Thailand...MYSELF (name and address in Thailand).

Going for SINGLE. Duration 90 DAYS

Left "guarantor in Laos" blank. ...All the same as I did for Penang application.  Thanks ubonjoe

From the page accompanying the Visa Application Form I downloaded, it says:

4.3 FOR OTHER PURPOSES THAN TOURISM, Please submit EVIDENCE SUBSTANTIATING YOUR PURPOSE OF STAY. Details of requirement could be obtained at the Embassy or on the Embassy's website www.thaiembassy.org/vientiane (which is an invalid address by the way).

However, the Embassy page for Vientiane that I can find ,http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/en/consular/visa.php  seems to be in Thai. Even the English pages.

What sort of evidence will I need other than a copy of my bank book?

Below is what I plan to take:

Passport

Copies of passport ID page,

Copy latest Thai visa,

Copy Lao visa entry,

Visa Application Form, plus THB2000 FEE.

2 x Photos,

Two bank books

Copy of (two) bank books, updated just before I go. One for THB800,000. One for proof I have funds to live on.

Letter from bank to verify funds, (THB800,000)

Copy house paper,

Letter from house owner (MYSELF),addressed to embassy, stating that I live at address on visa application.

Address of hotel in Vientiane.

THB20,000 plus in case asked to prove I have cash.

Is there anything I am missing? Or any suggestions what else I should take?

Thanks

  1.

Not sure where you got that old address for the embassy.

You can find PDF files at the bottom of the  consular page you found in English but there is no good info for getting the non-o for being over 50 in them.

Being 50 or over is enough of a reason to get the visa. But they want the financials to prove you can get an extension.

No need for a copy of your last visa.

You will only need the bank book  showing the 800k baht plus a copy and the bank letter for that account.

Vientiane never asks for 20k baht. Your bank book is your financial proof.

Two thousand baht for the visa.

That invalid address is on the accompanying page with the visa application form for Vietiane that I downloaded.

I do realise that I am probably going over the top with all the things I have listed, but after Penang, I just don't want to get caught unawares.

Phetphet,

I think you have all the bases covered, based on my experience a couple of weeks back.

I'm doing the opposite of you, declined by Vientiane for having no bank letter so I'm going to Penang next (easier access from Phuket) and will be armed with more than I need but will have the Embassy letter confirming my pension as well as bank books, and letters.

My one minor worry is that with the ROEs my current pension amount is a tiny bit short of the 65,000 per month required. I would hope that with over 800k in the bank as well this should be OK but you never know with Thai Immigration offices.

I used the address notification stapled inside my passport at Vientiane and he ticked the copy so I think this should be acceptable.

I'm going to use an agent in Penang.

I posted the link to the consular page in a topic you did on Monday.

Edit: Is this the form you downloaded. http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/upload/pdf/Visa Application Form_new_V_13_8_2558.pdf

It only has one page and is the most recent one they are using.

I think it was from this link. http://sabaijaicons.com/pdf/LaosVisaApplicationForm_new.pdf

As you can see, it has a second page, with that address at bullet point 4.3.

madmitch...There seemed to be lots of agents. Many people were going to Jim's Place. I actually saw him at the airport when I arrived, (recognised him from the internet). He was collecting lots of people. I wish I had approached him there and then, and asked him to do it. Saves a lot of hassle, but as it was my first time, I wanted to experience it myself.

When I did finally talk to him after my refusal, he said they had introduced these new req's recently.

Good luck in Penang.

The  forms are not the same. You should use the one from the embassy website I posted the link to.

I will do as you say Joe.

Many thanks.

hope you can kindly update us on your results in Penang upon completion,

so we can all know what's working currently...?

It's always helpful to know what the latest situation is,

and how things work to make it as smooth as possible.

I was there recently; in Penang, and got a single entry Non O,

which for now works for me, as that provides me with 5 months;

including the extension I get at the local IO office,

after the 3 month visa expires.

I didn't go through an agent, as there was any need to for the Non O,

based on dependent.

I also purchased a bus pass, on the first day, from the transit center,

which saved me a lot of money,

 and worked really well.

I highly recommend the bus service there.

If you don't wish to use the bus service,

you can try the grab cab app,

which also works great there.

Then you can schedule you pick up and departure point,

but most importantly, you'll know in advance what the fare will cost you.

They also have in Kaula Lumpur, a rental wifi receiver that you can pick up at the Airport,

which is really nice, since the Wifi service in Penang is poor, from most hotels.

With the receiver you can carry it on you, so you have internet connection wherever you go throughout Malaysia,

without having to change your sim card.

This helps me keep signal with my mobile, so I can navigate around Penang using google map,

while I walk around, and know I'm not going to get lost.

I'm not going for a while. I just want to be up to speed with what's needed. I will certainly inform of any new requests, as I did for the Vientiane bank letter. I'll an agent purely so I can actually enjoy my time in Penang and avoid the consulate altogether...................I hope

I too can recommend the "Grab" Taxi app. Where a taxi from the Thai embassy to Gurney Plaza shopping mall was MYR22, with Grab it was MYR 5.

Most local fares were MYR 5. A couple of longer ones were MYR 7, and the longest from the pick up at the base of the Hill Station to the Weld Jetties was only MYR 9. I just booked them through the app. Even shows the drivers progress.

I advise booking or trying to book them a few mins before you actually need them. Especially if it's raining.

Longest I waited was about 15-20 mins, as there were none in the area.

I think there was a hop on- hop off free bus service in Georgetown, but I didn't try it.

Also a massive Tesco near Straits Quay for any essentials. Inside Straits Quay, two fish and chip shops believe it or not, but not much else.
