I posted this on the appropriate forum but had no replies so thought I'd try here. I'm going up to Doi Tung in early November to visit my wifes family. We want to cross the border and visit family in Myanmar crossing at a land border. We will not know exact date in advance. How am I best to get a visa?

I think a bit more information is needed.

Where will you be going in Myanmar and how long will you be staying. 

Does your wife have Thai nationality? Doe she have a passport?

If you do the crossing at Mae Sai to Tachileik you can apply for a e-visa that will allow a 28 day stay. See: http://evisa.moip.gov.mm/
