Adobe Flash Player: Do I Need It?

I have a MacPro (mid-2012).    I am fed up with the constant Adobe Flash Player intrusive updates.   The method of notifying the user and the process of updating are counterproductive for me.  

Does a Mac need Adobe Flash Player?  If I can get along without it, how is the best way to disable it?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.   I have searched TV already, but most posts are now over a year old.

Unfortunately, there are sites that are still using Flash rather than HTML 5, so I am grudgingly still putting up with it.

 

If you want to get rid of Flash entirely, you can uninstall it.
