They will take you to overstay office is they will do. If you tell the people directing people to the lines you are on overstay they will take you to the desk which can save wasting time standing in line.

When they look at your passport they will see that you have overstayed and will call a colleague over who will take your details and look at how many days you have over stayed and then will tell you how much to pay. Pay then go catch your flight.
Popular Post BritTim
This forum is improving. The thread has been up for 2 hours and no one has demanded to know how the OP could have been so criminally negligent as to overstay, and claimed that a direct result would be that other foreigners will no longer be able to enter Thailand without satisfying impossible conditions.
NancyL
Have extra money. Here in Chiang Mai, I've seen situations where they tack on an extra fine for failure to file 90 day reports, also.

You get fined for every day overstayed up to a maximum of 20,000 baht (40 days), but thats not the point. If you get caught on overstay (even 1 day) you can be banned from the country for 5 years. I think it's very unlikely that someone overstaying a few days would be put through the legal system and banned, but if it were 30 days I think the chances are high.

They say nothing about getting caught. What they do say is `if you get arrested.` You are right about the 40 days elviajero. http://www.thaivisa-express.com/visa-overstay/ I guess it depends on how you read the rules then. I would say dont be so stupid that you get arrested. I have also lived here fore close to 10 years now and never have I been asked to show my passport. ID yes but never a passport. With a thai driverslicense and a copy of my adress-book they dont care about passport. Ofcourse its not smart to gamble with overstay anyway. The website you linked is wrong to suggest being arrested alone leads to a ban. You must be arrested AND prosecuted. Here is the link to the official immigration website http://www.immigration.go.th I said caught because if you surrender with an overstay of less than 91 days you would not be banned. If you get caught you can be arrested and possibly prosecuted. If you are prosecuted for overstay you can be banned for 5 or 10 year depending on the length of the overstay. All I was pointing out was that the decision to overstay is no longer just about the money as you have to factor in the possibility of getting caught, arrested, prosecuted, detained, fined, deported and banned. Peter Pattaya
Pay your fine after check in. 500 Baht a day. Bring it to the attention of one of the officials directing the lines . You won't have to stand there forever as they will take you directly to overstay counter, pay your fine ,stamp passport and your on your way. Have the correct amount in cash to speed things up . Bit like a VIP check out as you won't be standing in that never ending line which can at times cost you a missed flight.

Michael8511
So if you overstay under 90 day and make it to immigration by your self it's only a fine,
bark
Three years ago; a friend of mine went to the airport with just under two years over stay. He had flight ticket to Singapore and 20,000 baht. After being directed to the counter to pay. He made a comment about, it was better to be on over stay for for two years and pay the 20,000 baht; then having to waste his time on border runs. This pissed off one of the immigration girls. She had him arrested. They held him for a day in jail; missed his flight. I don't know about new rules; only to say, never fool around at immigration. They do have a lot of power.
IMA_FARANG
Your problem will be that thay may not allow you to enter to the immigration area without having checked out first with the airline. But usually a word at the check out counter will get you escorted to the overstay desk to pay the fine. The departure immigration area is considered a secure area, so there are security gaurds checking those who enter that area. Therefore, one of the security gaurds may walk you to yhe overstay desk before you are allowed to continue the departure process. That is why you should go earlier than you normally would to check out. Just don't panic, they have seen it all before, and it is to their interest that you pay the fine. As the T-Shirt slogan says, "Keep Calm and Carry On."
eastendanto
3 years ago I overstayed by 3 days and checked in at BKK airport ok. When going thru passport control/immigration got pulled over and directed to pay a fine, given a bill duly stamped and on my way.
sapson
Has anyone had a recent experience of leaving out of Don Muang airport with just one day overstay on an already extended SETV. Previous reports suggest you wont get a fine or an overstay stamp in your passport, or have things now tightened up? and is the overstay stamp a full page in your passport? You should not be fined for one day of overstay. You will likely get an overstay stamp that is smaller than a third of a page.

A harsh comment " criminally negligent", (also who are we on TV to "demand to know"?), we do not know the full facts of the case, I know from my one time when I overstayed by one day ( I had the date mixed up and it was only when I was flying out that it was pointed out to me that my visa expired the previous day) it was a simple mistake, I paid the 500 bht fine and departed. I learnt my lesson and have never overstayed again.

Anyone who has lived in Thailand long enough knows that the laws are interpreted and enforced in different ways in different parts of Thailand. The best thing to do is comply to the letter of the law as we all (hopefully) would in our own country's.

manfredtillmann
they will not grab you but they certainly grab your passport. and if you check in thai business class it is a fairly long walk to the immigration office with the overstay counter. i had to follow a young chap who obviously thought it was good fun to show the old fart who the boss is... my overstay was 2 days, before the new rules kicked in, and they made me suffer. immigration officer at overpay counter - in almost accent free english: 'i don't care how sorry you are, you will pay anyway'
