Bring my step daughter to the uk

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

My wife has FLRM and we are now trying to bring her daughter to the UK.

The father has no responsibility and we jointly support her.

She is 7 years old.

Which Visa do I need to apply for?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

She applies for a standard settlement visa; Apply to join family living permanently in the UK

I assume that your wife has sole custody; but that is not enough, she also needs to show she has been exercising sole responsibility over the child for a considerable period, at least throughout he period of separation and preferably before.

See Guidance SET 07 Children, especially SET7.8 What is sole responsibility?

Thank you 7by7.
She has had sole responsibility since birth. Also we have both been paying for her to attend a private school her living expenses and for an Internet connection so we can see her since they separated.
Hopefully the process will be a simple one

Why don't you use the Surinder Singh route, I know a friend who did it for his Thai wife and step son, and got a 5 year family permit.

https://www.gov.uk/family-permit/surinder-singh

Only valid if the family has genuinely lived (based their centre of life) in an EU country other than their own, before returning to the UK. Therefore (unless there are facts we are not aware of) completely irrelevant to this situation.
